No Sheild running/ Avast A/v Main errors!

I just switched from NOD32 to avast home 4.5 and I have had this problem before, but I though it might be fixed in the new 4.5 version
Here's my problem:

None of the shields are running at startup, and when I go to enable them it says that the operation could not be completed. This is reeally pissing me off, and I cant figure out what is wrong! I also get a Unknown Error: storage cannot be created for the "Splash" task. and then when I press OK to that, I get a Unknown error: Configuration is not loaded properly. Error: dbsCreateObject

What is up with this

My system's specs are as follows:
Athlon 2700+
768MBs of PC2700 RAM
80 GB WD HD 5400 RPMs
WinXPhome SP2

EDIT: there is one more error after the last one that I forgot to post...Tell me if you need what it says

A search of the forum for dbsCreateObject this returns lots of hits as it has been discussed previously.

Let us know if that resolves the problem, if so no need for the other error (unless it is unrelated), otherwise tel us about the other error message.
