Just one question before: why should I think keeping avast is better than keeping ad-aware?
Ad-Aware is not an anti-virus, avast is both anti-virus and anti-spyware.
Malwarebytes will perform a much better job with less risk of conflicts compaired to ad-aware.

Ferden one of the Avatar links iv used recently is http://www.forumsextreme.com/ and it might look like it, but it isnt a sex site  ;D
Ad-Aware have integrated Ikarus AV engine......(it may conflict with avast)  free version have limited real time protection

also full protection...depending what version you run

Thanks for correcting me there Pondus  ;)dont know where my brain is tonight, thats what happens when you dont sleep for two days  :)

the pro version is supposedly a full av,but it definitely doesnt compare to the big players in the av business, and is resource intensive.not to mention that it would possibly conflict with other AVs like avast.
the free version (as some have mentioned) doesnt have real time protection,so another on demand scanner like malwarebytes is superior.

I've uninstalled everything else, and guess what:

- no internet as soon as avast is activated

- the computer freeze as before when I select text even when avast it's deactivated (thought it's far less current, I just can't find why sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't).

If the computer freezes, maybe you can manually dump and upload the dump for analysis.

Vlk explains how to create a dump file here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=22636.msg187340#msg187340 and here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23283.msg193594#msg193594  ;)

To create the dump, download and run http://public.avast.com/~vlk/hangrep.exe . In the list of processes select it and use the Save button. This generates a file which you can either send to his email address vlk (at) avast.com (if it's smaller than e.g. 1 MB, ZIPed), or upload to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

The command-line version http://public.avast.com/~vlk/userdump.exe . The syntax is
userdump.exe <program_to_dump>.exe c:\<report_name>.dmp
(producing dump file in the root of C:\ drive)
Please note that prior to taking it, you'll have to temporarily disable avast self defense - otherwise, the program responsible for creation of the dump won't be able to open the process.

How to invoke memory dump creation:

That's the knowledgebase article of Avast.

I finished of course to get rid of avast. If ad aware doesn't "compare", then what are the other "big players in the AV business"? You know, I'm looking for one...

Ad-Aware is not very good any more and Malwarebytes (MBAM) and avast! is the best combination!

Ferden you never mentioned what AV was preinstalled on your netbook when you purchased it and how it was removed, more than likely it was McAfee or norton and you should run the correct removal tool for it from here http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ please read the uninstall information before running removal tool, once done and all other security softwares have been removed then a fresh install of avast should work for you which you can then beef up with Malwarebytes.
