Unable to update
« on: November 17, 2004, 09:46:08 PM »
Hello

I am having some troubles with Avast here. Yesterday everything was fine, but today... When I try to update thru "iAVS" or "Program Update" I am getting immediately the following message:

Code: [Select]
Error: Cannot connect to serverfollowed by:
Code: [Select]
Cannot connect to downloadXX.avast.com (IP_address_here:80)
I have a firewall - Kerio Personal Firewall 4.1.2 and I don't see any connection attempts from avastXX.setup. Avast is allowed to connect to the internet. I've disabled Kerio's, deinstalled Kerio - doesn't help. Countless reboots too. I am pretty sure that the connection can be estableshed - I've copied the IP addresses and opened them with my browser and telnet without any problems (they all lead to the main Avast site). I don't have any problems with my internet connection. The connections aren't blocked by my ISP, because I am the system administrator :) Also, we don't use proxies. I've repaired Avast's installation without success.

Other information that may be helpful:

OS: Windows 2000 SP4
LAN Connection
Outgoing ICMP is blocked.

Avast 4.5.523
VPS 0447-0

Update (Basic) is set to Automatic.
Update (Connection) - "My computer is permanently connected to internet" is marked.

Attached is the error log from the update.

Thanks in advance
Todor

I also use Win2k with SP4 installed. Since the upgrade to Avast! Ver. 4.5.523 I have been unable to auto  update the iVAS automatically.  I get the red warning when it tries to auto update, saying it was unable to connect to the server.

I have tried doing a repair, have done a complete uninstall and reinstall. Still no help.

My intertnet settings are set to "permanently connected to the internet."
I am the client  PC on a peer to peer wireless configuration.. Earlier versions worked fine.  All other functions work okay.

The error log shows the following error message:

11/18/2004   7:30:00 PM   1100835000   SYSTEM   544   Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x20000004, dwRes is 20000004.

When the Auto Update fails, I can just select "Updating, then "iAVS update and, if there is an update, it downloads and installs successfully.

The host PC connects to DSL and the only Firewall operating is the hardware firewall in the DSL modem.

Thanks,

 :)

FYI: The task of a moderator is to keep an eye on what is post. Like are there no insultings, or bad language in posts. Are the posts in the correct forum and such. Ofcourse they can and will help if they please, just like everybody else.

rick98382,
if you look at the log that was attached, you would have seen that you got another problem. So please do not post a different problem in somebody else his thread. This will only lead to confusion.

acidmax,
have you tried a repair of Avast?

Not the same problem :( Now I don't have a firewall, I've never had one on this installation.

Eddy: Not only repairing, but fully reinstalling my Windows. Didn't help at all :(
