virus found
« on: November 19, 2004, 05:28:45 PM »
Avast has found a virus in an incoming e-mail. I clicked on -move to chest.
Now the e-mail is still in my Outlook and if I click on it I get a sound and a message with -Delete or Go further or Blocking!
What do I have to do? Can I just delete the e-mail now without problems?
I'm sorry, I am new with the software an I already looked into the manuel.

If you sent the file to Chest, the virus should be there and not into Outlook...
Are you sure of this? It is the same message (I mean, could you receive more than one and only the first was sent to chest)?
Did you change any setting of the Outlook provider (for instance, send the infected file to any Outlook folder)?
Anyway, you can delete all email from Outlook.

I'm sure, 1 e-mail. I didn't change any settings. After I did get a message from Avast and I clicked on -move to Chest, just the mail with attachment is in Outlook. Maybe this is normal? I do see in Chest Avast has a virus found .
If I delete the e-mail in Outlook I won't have problems?

thank you. :)
It frightened me at first. First a sound and message: a virus found and then a message again to delete it,block it...
My virussoftware before just give me the message that he did take care of the virus.
What is the different between deleting then and blocking? After blocking you still have to delete the mail!?
Now Avast already get 3 virusses.

I'm confused here, by blocking you mean send to Chest or not?
I haven't seen the option block...  ::)

Sorry I can't understand German  :-[
That window looks like the Heuristic warning for me but I'm not sure...
Maybe some German spoker user could help here... Bob?

It's Dutch and as far as I understand it (I'm german speaking) it means "Suspicious extention of attachment" - I assume thats referring to the src extention

Oops. I do not read Dutch either  :-[
If you're saying "Suspicious extention of attachment" I'm sure this is the Heuristic module.

Yes it is Heuristic mode (I have seen it), but that does not answer your question.

Check the sender of the message.

I think that "Move to chest", "Block", and other options are just confusing. Delete the message. Every time. You do not want it.

If  the sender is someone you know then  tell them they are sending you a virus.

Thank you . Yes it's Dutch.
Strange that you don't have such a screen after receiving an infected e-mail!?
Why not?
I have looked into the Manuel and have seen the name Heuristic.
At the settings of Outlook-Advance I can check the silent mode. Then I probably won't get the message again. But I van check 3 things there: 1. Deliver it out (I hope I translate that well, in Dutch there is -lever het uit)
2. Refuse entrance, 3. Mark it in the subjectfield.
I don't see Delete there. What do I have to check?
