« on: November 19, 2004, 11:26:32 PM »
  *  What operating system are you using? (e.g. Windows 2000 Server...)
    * What version of avast! are you using? (e.g. 4.0.160 - you can find this information in "About avast!..." dialog)
    * What version of VPS file are you using? (e.g. 0303-10, 04/15/2003 - you can find this information in "About avast!..." dialog)
    * What is your basic hardware configuration? (e.g. Intel Pentium III 800 MHz, 128 MB RAM)
    * How do you connect to Internet? (e.g. dial-up, using proxy server, using firewall...)
    * What is your e-mail client? (e.g. Outlook, Outlook Express, IncrediMail...)
    * Do you use some other security software? Which one? (e.g. Norton Antivirus...)
    * What are the steps to reproduce the bug again?
    * Do any error messages appear? If yes, what exactly do they say?

Info:

1 - Windows xp pro
2 - Avast! version 4.1 Home Edition
3 - VPS = 0447-1, 19/11/2004
4 - ASUSTeK A7N8X REV 1.xx, 1.60 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP, 512 Megabytes Ram, NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4400
5 - Cable
6 - Outlook, hotmail
7 - ...
8 - No

Now My question is simple i found a folder named _avast4_ in : C:\WINDOWS\Temp\_avast4_\unp174934643 the file size is 2,219,520 KB over 2 Gigabytes why? Can i delete that file? It uses up space on my hard drive. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I recommend the you do a manual update your program to the latest version of avast 4.5 and check and see if that resolves the issue and get back to us if not.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.4.6112 (build 24.4.9067.762) UI 1.0.803/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

What's the extension of the file ? Anyway, I'm sure you can just erase it. It's inside Windows/temporary folder. I have Windows/Temp/_avast4_ folder as well, but it's completely empty...

EDIT: However, there is information from the first hand, from one of Alwil experts, PK. While I was editing this post, he already gave you an answer...

So, you're clear to erase that file without any after effects.

Cheers !

The file was created by avast v4.1 - in the TEMP folder, and you can delete it (These files are created during unpacking). The packer library is now improved in v4.5 and we don't allow to create such big files (or we'll identify the file as a decompression bomb).

It as no extension, if i click proprieties it says archive. Thats all i can tell. And yes  i removed the check mark in folder options at: Hide extensions for known file types.
