Cannot scan

Hi.
I have used home edition for about a year and really rate the program. Just recently when I try to scan I get an error message.
Scan completed with error: 87 = The Parameter is incorrect.
If I double click on the systray icon it reports a rpc error.
I am using winXP Pro, any help would be appreciated.
