Hi,

I am also facing the same problem with the firewall.
Recently I have installed "avast! Mobile Security" and everything works fine except 'Firewall'.
If I enable Firewall, none of the applications listed in the Firewall section is able to access Internet. If I disable the Firewall, all the applications are able to access Internet.

I have given full permission to the "avast! Mobile Security" in the Firewall, but when I try to do the 'Check for updates now' option in the 'Settings' section, it displays this message: "Connection to the update server failed. Check your Internet connectivity and try again."

My Android phone configuration is as follows:
Device: LG Optimus One P500
Android version: 2.3.3 (Rooted)
Kernel version: 2.6.35.10

Anyway, lot of thanks to the "avast!" team for developing such a feature rich application.
Now I am a fan of "avast!" products. Inspired from "avast! mobile Security", I've installed "avast! Antivirus" on my desktop and laptop, and now I am recommending "avast!" products to my friends..!!

Update:
There is no problem in the avast! Firewall functionality..!!
Now all applications are allowed/restricted to access Internet based on the Firewall rules set. The problem was in understanding the working of (Wi-Fi/3G/Roaming) buttons given for each application in the 'Firewall' section.
What I understand is given below, may help anyone facing problems with the 'Firewall':
If you select any button(eg.,Wi-Fi button, its color changes to black when selected) given against a specific application, you are enabling 'Firewall' for that type(eg., Wi-Fi) thus blocking that application from using that(eg., Wi-Fi) type of service.

Thanks,

Hi Reinhard,

hi i did not yet get any reply on my email address - can you please contact me so we can further on research the issue?

at least two of our users in the German support forums should have dropped you an email in the meanwhile: http://forum.avadas.de/threads/3806-Probleme-mit-der-Firewall

They still seem to have the problem of the firewall blocking the connections of apps, even they are allowed.

Hi,

your email is holzner@avast.com?

I asked them again and both confirmed that one sent you a in January already and one in at early February. I am not sure if they didn't sent the mail or if there are technical problems. If you want, you can check the thread here. I am out of this issue now.

Hello,

one of our users created a video about the scrolling lag problem, which at least two of them complains about: http://forum.avadas.de/threads/3806-Probleme-mit-der-Firewall?p=37434&viewfull=1#post37434

Not related to the blocking of everything, but another issue. The scrolling problem only appears when the firewall is enabled.

- Samsung Galaxy Note, Android 2.3.5, latest firmware, approx. 62 apps + pre-installed apps
- Samsung Galaxy S2, Android 2.3.5, Abyss 2.6.35 Kernel, approx. 44 apps + pre-installed apps
- Samsung Galaxy S2, Android 2.3.6, Goatrip 2.0+Siyah v2.6.3 Kernel, 47 apps + pre-installed apps

Regarding the non-working firewall: Both user now running the latest version of Mobile Security and their apps are only able to access the internet (regardless of the individual apps settings), if they check "allow all apps".

One (hopefully) last question that might be able to help us track the issue faster. You said it appears only if the FW is enabled. In that case, does it lag only in the FW view or also in other views (like Application Management with all apps shown etc)? Thanks.

EDIT: Also about the FW. If you disable the firewall then reenable it, the settings should be reset to default. Since the app list should show all the apps correctly in the newest AMS version, doing this might solve some problems (even though I agree that it might be really boring having to set up the FW again).

Hi Filip,

I got a reply on that: Application Management with all apps runs fine as well as all other AMS views. The reset of the firewall settings has been tried, but didnt help. However the user tried to uninstall and install AMS again. After that the "Firewall" scrolling was fast, however as soon as he turns on the firewall and changes some rules, scrolling laggs occur again.

Btw...I clarified another point with the user: Internet connection of the apps seem to work with avast! Firewall activated, only the Android Market (installation or updating of Apps) doesn't work, even the application got the allowance to do so in the Firewall.

That's a completely different matter then :) To allow some of the built-in application in the firewall, you also have to enable some of the groups at the bottom of the list. For Android Market it is the group containing Google Services Framework I think (just can't remember it 100% so if it's not that, try some other group).

Enable the following applications: "Market"; "Media Storage, DRM Protected Content Storage, Download Manager" and "Calendar Sync Adapter, Google Services Framework, Contacts Sync Adapter" (for download)

I think we found the source of this issue. The lagging should be gone in the next version (hopefully) :)
