Problems with screensafer-scanning
« on: November 23, 2004, 04:00:52 PM »
Hi guys,
I have problems with the avast-screensafer.  I use version 4.5.523 of avast (personal edition). I changed the rules on the "Virus" page in the properties of the screensafer. Avast should now delete my eicar.com test-virus immediately without answering me what to do. But when I run the screensafer it stops as soon as the virus is found.

In fact avast deletes the test file. But when I'm not using my computer the screensafer should scan and disinfect my harddisks completely and without stopping. Is there a possibility of changing avasts behavior? Is it a bug? I thought only withe the "Stop"-rule the scan would stop.

I use WinXP with SP2.

It's not a bug. This is by design.
Automated behavior when a virus is found is only available in the Professional version  ;)

Well, this obviously is a Professional version - otherwise the Virus page wouldn't be there :)

About the behavior - I think it's really by design; avast! screensaver exits after the first virus found, no matter if the virus action specifies "Stop" or not. On the other hand, I'm not sure if it's correct - personally, I would prefer the possibility to go on (even though automated deleting by screensaver and going on seems to be rather strict, to me - I wouldn't dare to use such option ;))
