i had to do a system restore on my pc for a few days back, and now it will not let me start up my avast?  it just keep saying that the avast antivirus program has been stopped or is in a inconsistent state please re start   but when i try to restart nothing happens

any ideas?

Hi,
try this, go under CONTROL PANEL->ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS->AVAST->CHANGE/REMOVE->REPAIR
Then reboot your PC.
If the problem is still, try to unistall, reboot and install again
