I understand from a previous reply that I can scan password-protected files (if I know the password). How do I do that. I do know that password in most instances?

AFAIK, there is no simple way to do it in bulk, you just need to reverse the process for each file, in other words remove the password.

If archive files are inert by nature, even more the password protected.
avast does not have brute force nor a feature to inform the password and scan the archive.
You need to unpack them to scan the files into it.
