Error upon virus deletion
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:52:58 AM »
Hi, I am a new free Avast! user and when I scanned my computer there were some errors when trying to remove, or move to chest with 2 viruses and I don't know how to remove them (FREE USER).
Status:
Threat: Win32:Adware-Gen[Adw] (HIGH) - Error system cannot find the file specified (2)
2 of these viruses are the same and cannot be deleted... should I repair or somthing? or manual removal how can I do this???? I am sure a lot of you have the same as me and solved it.

my guess is that if you reboot and scan again....the detection is gone

but as David say...where are/was they located ?

I suggest you schedule a boot time scanning and send infected files to Chest.

If avast cant find the file....it may mean it is already gone

that is why i suggested reboot and scan again....if still detected and not removed, i would run a quick scan with Malwarebytes

it is not a dangeorus malware

Someone has either installed Click Potato or it has come bundled with some other application, whilst it is adware (not seriously bad) you don't want it. Using the information in the link given by Pondus you should be able to remove it manually.

However, you may need other tools and malwarebytes anti-malware (MBAM) and avast won't destroy your computer, as you will see from many peoples' signatures lots of us use that combo without problem.
