Infected by Atraps.gen2 and other viruses
« on: February 10, 2012, 10:25:23 PM »
Hi. Yesterday i was on the net and i had the antivirus deactivated... I suddenly got infected (i still dont know why, since i was on "normal" and legit sites) by some viruses. It deleted lots of icons on my desktop and did some mess in less than one minute. I first started MalwareBytes that always found and deleted all the viruses that attacked me in the past but this time it didnt work. In fact when i do a complete scan with my AV it still finds this ATRAPS.GEN2, associated to various files like this C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini or this C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini
How can i remove this shit? I tried everything but it seems i still have it!
Thanks for help
PS it also deleted some Windows pre-installed programmes like the Games (like the Spider solitaire)... is there a way to get them back?

Legit sites get hacked...... Facebook is legit, still lots of malware is spread there

was Malwarebytes updated before you did the scan ?

follow this guide and attach the logs....not copy and paste

your MBAM log say "NO ACTION TAKEN"  Nessuna azione intrapresa

update malwarebytes.......do a new quick scan and click the "remove selected" (rimuovere selezionato)    button to quarantine anything found

I'm italian. It says no action taken because the objects he detected arent virures. They are files i have that are considered viruses but arent! Trust me :)

Hi I need to determine the variant first

Download aswMBR.exe ( 4.1mb ) to your desktop.
Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it  Click the "Scan" button to start scan

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

If you have Malwarebytes 1.6 or better installed please disable it for the duration of this run

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
    Quote
    :OTL
    SRV:64bit: - [2009/07/14 02:39:46 | 000,006,656 | ---- | M] (Oak Technology Inc.) [Auto | Running] -- C:\Windows\SysNative\mldserv.dll -- (backupexecalertserver)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - No CLSID value found.
    O3 - HKU\S-1-5-21-1213401710-3435767596-1835381730-1001\..\Toolbar\WebBrowser: (no name) - {47833539-D0C5-4125-9FA8-0819E2EAAC93} - No CLSID value found.
    O3 - HKU\S-1-5-21-1213401710-3435767596-1835381730-1001\..\Toolbar\WebBrowser: (no name) - {C55BBCD6-41AD-48AD-9953-3609C48EACC7} - No CLSID value found.
    NetSvcs:64bit: backupexecalertserver - C:\Windows\SysNative\mldserv.dll (Oak Technology Inc.)

    :Files
    ipconfig /flushdns /c

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
    [Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.
THEN

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.[/b]
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3.  If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

I did the first part of the instructions (the ones about otl) and, to be honest, it caused lots of problems. I started it, following your instructions, but it first gave an error like "i can't create file hosts" or something like that and then i got a message from Windows 7 saying it had an irreversible error and that it was going to reboot. When it rebooted, the system didnt work and windows 7 didnt start. Luckily, there was the utility System Restore that made me access windows again... Now i'm stuck!

OK lets reverse the process - and as Pondus says cracks are the best vector known for virus infection

It apparently does not like the respawing file to be removed first..  Good data

Run Combofix first and then the OTL scan with a slightly modified script
Code: [Select]
:OTL
SRV:64bit: - [2009/07/14 02:39:46 | 000,006,656 | ---- | M] (Oak Technology Inc.) [Auto | Running] -- C:\Windows\SysNative\mldserv.dll -- (backupexecalertserver)

O3 - HKU\S-1-5-21-1213401710-3435767596-1835381730-1001\..\Toolbar\WebBrowser: (no name) - {47833539-D0C5-4125-9FA8-0819E2EAAC93} - No CLSID value found.

Trust me, i have had those "cracks" for 2 years or more and they never caused any problems. :) it has nothing to do with them, i'm 100% sure!
