4.5 does not work
« on: December 02, 2004, 05:05:58 AM »
never had problems with avast but after updating to 4.5 it does not boot anymore and tells me it "cant make the boot for the "boot" task" and "configuration is loaded incorect. error: dbsCreateObject" what causes these errors and is it my fault?

note: these errormessages are translated so they could be a little bit off. did my best :)

Have you tried a repair of Avast?
What exact version of Avast do you have?
What SP2 version do you have?

Eddy, Good morning (my time zone :)  )

I'm having a different type problem, but one that is recurring.
XP Home SP2, OE, Avast! 4.5.546, ZA free, Prevx, SpyBot, Ad SE, Spyblaster

Yesterday morning all was working fine. Then when I went online last night, I had 7 providers/5 running
internet mail was waiting for a subsystem to start, but OE was running. I tried repair, ended up emailing Vlk, and at his suggestion, I started the internet provider. It worked then.
This morning, I had to do the same thing...manually start the internet mail provider.

In services (control panel, administrative) it is set for manual. Does this mean I will have to keep starting the internet mail provider manually all the time?
And I don't understand why it (internet mail provider) will work without my doing anything, then other times I have to start it.

I saw Tipton's post about his problem with ZA and I am having the same thing happen ???

Jorenvonk, can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Which is your 'default' email client?
I mean, if you ask for a new email message, which program starts automatically?
Outlook Express? Can you check into its menu: Tools > Options > General ?

And I don't understand why it (internet mail provider) will work without my doing anything, then other times I have to start it.

Mine is manual and it works  :-[  :-\
What happens if you set it for automatically?

Technical, I have my mail come through my ISP first because it has a spam filter. Then I go to OE...

Same thing happens if it is set to automatic--I'm beginning to think there is something with ZA that is causing the problem ???

i did practically everything you said and when i boot the only that works is the VRDB generator -- the rest stays off. when i want to start the program it still gives the same popups, nothing changed. i dont have a firewall (router) i use the newest winXP version (always update asap) and my avast! version is also the newest (i cant find the  exact version because the program wont boot.

dont make me switch to avg now... i hate that program  ;)

I did practically everything you said

Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
Did you have in the past?
Did you uninstall AVG before installing avast?
Which one?

Do you use any other software firewall?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

I believe I may also be experiencing the same problem jovenvonk is. I also get the (Error:dbsCreateObject).

The exact quote is:

"Program cannot save parameters to the storage! (Error:dbsCreateObject)"

The above pops out when trying to start avast antivirus by right clicking the icon on the task bar. and when you try to scan a file you get:

"Program cannot create "object" in "storage"

The Repair option from the add/remove doesn't do anything to help this problem.

I have uninstalled it and put pro, and then I uninstalled it to put it back to the free home edition and non of them work. It used to work fine, I never had any problems until now.

Try to open the <avast>\data\avast4.ini file and in the [Common] section, change the item Database=ODBC to Database=XML. This could prevent the Microsoft Jet drivers from accessing the database... does it have any (positive) effect?

Downgrading from Pro to Home and then upgrading to Pro again could bring some trouble... Maybe it will be better uninstall / boot / install / boot.

Technical rocks. Working on the INI file did the trick, thanks! I'm with jorenvonk I don't want to use another service. My favorite feature is that it can scan a folder through right clicking it and only one window would pop up while doing it. It sounds like a non-special feature, but you wont believe how many other anti-virus programs cant do that.
