avast jerks and freezes in taskbar
« on: February 25, 2012, 12:44:35 AM »
I have 6 machines, 2 of them XP SP3 and this morning after getting notification through GUI I've upgraded from v6 pro  to v7. Nothing but trouble, first the spinning orange  icon in taskbar was jerking while spinning and then freezing every few seconds, so that resulted  poor pc performance almost to the freezing point.
I did clean install, the same thing no change, I even reloaded my pc to clean install of windows ISO restore, the same thing. I have been using avast since version 4 and for most part I was pleasant experience, a little issue here and there but nothing series, but this takes the cake.
I run Outpost Firewall Pro along, but this was never  a issue and like I said this even happens  installing on fresh windows. I would like to rectify this issue before I move on to my other PC`s.
Thanks

avast! 6.0.1387 is last known good revision level.  We will NOT use 7 until it is debugged!

Ever since avast has been adding the extras i.e. autosandbox, filerep, gadgets and more which I don't care about, I have been always doing custom install without any of it, I've been considering shifting to different sources. Releasing prematurely a upgrade that has a lot of bugs is not in their favor, I also forgot to mention that don't matter how you install this version you lose your license and new 1 needs to be inserted.

Does this help?

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94060.0

Sorry but no, different symptoms, in their case avast scans the same file over again, here avast stutters and at times freezes my window.
Thanks for the effort.

@vapor

exactly, all was working fine on avast 6, but this 7 version pissed me on my windows 7 machine at home.. So I decided to remove it (cannot anymore use my machine coz of that freezing issue) and moved to MSE.

I know I'm still here on the forums because I'm curious if I'm the only one experiencing it, but alas, users like you experience it too.....

It's just weird that my office windows XP (which I'm using right now to post this message) is running Avast 7 perfectly!

well guys, if u want to make a bug report, please put a more informative title, eg. remote assistance crashes on (fill in ur operating system) followed by error report

then for details, u can add a screenshot of the problem, state what other programmes ur running, eg. antispyware, firewall (basically anything that runs on system startup)

please also give the support ppl sometime to see ur topic! they are not robots  ::)

also no topic hijacking pls... if u got ur own bug issues (to that particular reseller) please start a new topic with the description i provided...
there is NO programme in this world that is bug free.

don't matter how you install this version you lose your license and new 1 needs to be inserted.

I understand your frustration, but your license - related comment is incorrect. The registration (license) is one thing. The new "avast account" is related, but not the same thing. You can have a registered version of avast 7 and the account still disabled.

Of course this is not to minimize the other problems. I just wanted to clarify the license comment.

I have no idea what account has to do with license for avast :) I don’t think I’ve even mentioned “account” in my post
What I’m saying is that upon upgrade, instead of license or remaining time what’s left of the subscription been transferred to the new version, the program reverts to trial, unlike privies versions that wouldn’t have been the case.

This is the first time I see this issue about the license when updating the program.
