Web Shield is stopped

I looked at my antivirus today and saw that the Web Shield is not running. I try to click "Fix Now", but nothing happens. Diving a little deeper, avast says the "service stopped" and "Please run avast! service first to activate this shield." What is this referring to? Thanks.

I had the same problem,fixed it by useing the uninstall utility from Avast in safemode and then installing a new setup file.

what is your avast version at Maintenance tab?

Uninstalled, ran the removal utility, reinstalled, and still the web shield is disabled. Thoughts?
