Got it!

Went to the Avast homepage, clicked "account" at the top right, tried to log in, had it send me another activation key when the log in failed, got an email with actual words and an activation link, and I'm logged in. (Was already connected on the GUI.)

Sorry for the multiple posts.  I guess posting helps me to think.  :-[

I was kind of expecting something in the GUI to take me to my account once I logged in and connected there.
