Need help.

I'm using winows 98 se and want to ask something:
Is it true that with 98 se and mozzila firefox there are no any new viruses that are able to infect my system?
Sorry for the stupid question but i think to go on XP SP2 and procesor 633Mh 256 ram 64 mb gforce 4-is my computer strong eneugh.I really should now if there are new viruses for my system(98) becouse if not i think that it will be better to stay on 98 and now going on XP

The real question should be : Do I need Windows XP in my everyday use of my computer ?
Am I facing with progs that  I'd like to use but that don't run with win98 ?

Windows 98 is now quite obsolete and more and more softwares don't or won't run with win98. It is the same thing for malwares.  On the other hand window XP is far more secure than windows 98 if you take some time to adress security issues like useless wide open ports or using it without administrative rights.

BTW, your 633Mhz proc with 256mb RAM  is not very powerful and you may encounter the following problems :
- overall slowdown, XP is more ressource consuming than win98
- some compatibility problem with that today run smoothly (prog designed for win 98 with that kind of CPU/RAM config.)

For example my daughter uses a AMD K6-500MHz/ ~400Mb RAM runing WIN XP /SP2 for web browsing, e-mail and chatting.

Conclusion, if you are prepared to spend time to install/tweak/tune and ... learn a lot then go for XP.

Yes thank you for you answer.About the system configuration-currewntly i'm with 128 ram and 8 mb video card but a proffesional computer specialist told me that with 256 ram XP should run goo eneugh not very fast but still satisfactorily.

I currently have about 40 games+/- 20GB but,after i install XP i will install just few games like couner-strike,womrs armagedon, heroes 3 and other.In the past i was a big gamer but now i just want to reed interest things on the internet.
Can you tell me i site about PC thecnologies and software-something like education?

Thank you very much to all of you but i don't have many money so this is what i can buy. if i had eneugh i will buy 2.6 Proc. 512Mb ram 128 mb video card 80 gb HDD...but i'll wait the prices to fall donw-in few ears veverything will be very cheap.
