[Solved] Avast update will not complete!
« on: February 26, 2012, 02:24:28 PM »
Since Avast 7 update I get a window saying Avast update nearly complete, so I click 'finish' and the window goes - trouble is it happens each time I reboot and can't find a way to stop this popping up!

Any help please, thanks?

I don't exactly get what you mean. Does it say that the update did not complete successfully or was it that it always show an "update completed" every reboot?

It says-:
'Complete your upgrade to Avast 7', underneath this it say's, 'you are almost done, click finish to complete' - but this message keeps coming back every time I do a re-boot!

Thanks for quick response!

I see. Please try this workaround:

Quote
1. Avast main GUI -> settings -> troubleshooting -> disable the self defense module and save settings (don't worry about the messages, accept).

2. search for the file "avast5.ini" (even if it is version 7 of avast); EDIT the file with notepad.

3. in "avast5.ini", look for the "[common]" section. There should be an entry named "ShowSetupOutro".

4. change the above entry "ShowSetupOutro" from 1 to 0 (zero).

5. save the file and reboot.

6. go back to avast main GUI -> settings -> troubleshooting -> enable the self defense module and save.

Disabled 'Self Guard' but cannot locate avast5.ini by searching or looking in Avast folder in programs.

Nor is there any similar files listed.

In Windows Explorer (and in your search) you would need to enable 'show "Hidden" and "System" files'. You could also set to "show file extensions".

Same problem - but whenever I try to edit the file it just says I don't have permission!!!!

Should users really have to go through all this!!!

Further to the original answers I have found the following which may be of help to Win7 users.

For Win7 the avast5.ini file is located (on my machine) at c:/programdata/avastsoftware/avast/

I also found that the value for avast5.ini was not as stated in the article. It was neither 0 nor 1 but was set to 2. Setting to zero after editing and rebooting cleared the problem
