Skins
« on: December 06, 2004, 06:20:38 PM »
Hi: I'm a new user and very pleased with Avast. But I don't like the skins that came with it - sorry! I downloaded some to my c:\Downloads folder and copied them over to c:\Avast\Data\Skins where I found the available skins. But, the new ones do not show up as available - just the original three. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Donald

Just double click on the downloaded skins if the end with .aswcs. If they end with .zip, first unpack them than double click on the .aswcs.

And make sure to turn on the translucent effects.

Donald, it is actually described in the very first paragraph on the skin download page http://www.avast.com/eng/skins.html  :)

I'm also a new user as of today and I had a problem downloading the skins. I was able to download the first one I liked but I got a Windows sharing violation on any subsequent download attempts and then a new instance of avast! would start up. Very strange.

I have Windows XP home, completely up-to-date, and the latest version of avast! Home Edition.

A new instance of avast! would start up.

This is ok... the skin 'open' the avast GUI. Other things aren't normal...

The problem happened while I was *downloading* the skins, not while installing them. This was happening with IE so I switched to Firefox and had no problems downloading or installing the skins.

Delete all temporary files and the problem should be solved.

I believe you're right because the sharing violation was with a temporary file.

Thanks!
