installation "file sig. invalid"
« on: August 24, 2003, 08:10:23 AM »
When I try to install avast home vers. I get the message "Invalid file signature.  Setup will terminate.

I have registered and previously installed it but find it causes windows based games to crash/hang and consequently uninstalled it, but no luck with installing again.

Have deleted file and downloaded it from Avast several times but with same message on installation.

This means that the file you're trying to install is invalid or tampered with.

Can you, please, send the the full url you've used to download the file? Also, tell me which browser and (possible) download manager you use.

thanks,

Hi Kubecj

I use Alta Vista as the browser

The url is: www.avast.com/i_idt_1016.html downloaded from the US section of the menu.

Have deleted and downloaded the exe at least three times, the latest on 24/8/03, and get the same message when I try to install.

Don't know anything about download manager, my son sets it all up.

I also use awsclnr.exe which I run manually, and used avclear4.exe to uninstall the home version. Could one of these be causing the hiccup.

Thanks
Lanejox

No, aswclnr.exe and avclear4.exe could not corrupt the installation.

I confirm. aswclnr.exe and avclear4.exe do their job...
Do you know if any other antivirus is installed in your computer (as AVG, Norton from Symantec, McAfee, Kapersky, etc.)?
I have to desinstall avast from Windows 98 and from XP systems and everything goes fine...

I have no other anti-virus programmes on my system though I used to run Vet some time ago but have removed it.

Would it help if I deleted all avast programmes and started from scratch.

Thanks
