Avast 4.5 changing Outlook Express Outgoing Mail server address
« on: December 09, 2004, 07:11:30 PM »
Environment:
Windows 98SE
Outlook 6  (6.00.2800.1123)
Avast 4.5 (Build: Nov2004 4.5.549)

Problem:
Avast is changing my SMTP Outgoing mail server address in Outlook Express.

The setting are being changes from the mail server address that my ISP has provided (smtp.broadband.rogers.com) to the local host IP (127.0.0.1).  This results not being able to send any outgoing mail.  I reset the outgoing server information only to have Avast set it back to the local host IP.  I have multiple identities set up in Outlook express.  My ISP's SMTP mail server requires authentication.  Though each uses the same SMTP server address for outgoing mail each has a different user account and pw for authentication.  Avast seems to only give me an option to authenticate one user account.  I tried to disable scanning of outgoing mail but my Outgoing mail address is still being reset to the local IP address.

Can someone help?

Setup the mail as if Avast isn't  there, than run the mail protection wizzard.

In fact, these changes are necessary to messages be scanned.
You must change the authentication settings for the smtp server to:

User: #smtp.broadband.rogers.com
or
User: youremailname#smtp.broadband.rogers.com

Password, left it blank or fill it.
Check for remembering the password.

avast gives you the option to authenticate as many user accounts as you want or need.

You may also change the settings on Outlook to let Outlook wait a bit longer before requesting feedback from the mailserver.  I recomend Avast to my private customers who buy new computers, and a few have reportet not being able to download large emails. They also have problems sending mail. By changing the timeout in outlook you'll let Avast prosess the email and send it on slow internettconnections without recieving timeout messages.
