Virus - Win32:spung(trj)
« on: December 10, 2004, 03:16:16 PM »
You can tell by my user name that I am a novice with the computer.
I use the Avast home free version and I scanned last night and
it detected the Win32:spung (trj) virus.  The recommendation was to
remove it to the virus chest, which I did.  I cannot find any information
on this virus.  I would like it removed from my computer completely.
How do I do this.  It is in file lableled hh.dll (I have no idea what that
is).  Please tell me what this is and how to remove it safely.

Hi,

This is Adware (Called "hungryhands")
here you can find detailed description & removal instructions, if wanted:
Click4Info
best check if any of the malicious .DLL-files mentioned there are left on your PC

*

if after reboot a full thorough scan with avast (archivescan enabled) won't show any more infections, it's gone/removed)
(it's still inactive=not dangerous in the avast Chest/quarantine: you can leave it there, or delete it : be sure to only delete files from the "Virus"Section of the chest, NOT system files)

- if you have XP, try a boot-time-Scan with avast (see it's menu/help-files)
- or try a scan in SafeMode (F8-Boot)

you might want to work through the link "VirusRemoval" below in my sig. for detailed instructions/how-tos and how to make you PC more secure for the future
Also run the "Ad-Aware"-Scanner mentioned there
 ;)

Thanks for answering so quickly.  I will take all the measures that you
suggested and will let you know when I have succeeded in getting
rid of the virus.
