need help, please
« on: December 11, 2004, 05:24:03 AM »
I've been using avast for over a year and am very happy with the program, but have since found an annoyance.  The 'A' icon in my taskbar is no longer there (nor is the other one) and I can't find a way to turn it on again.  Please help me to activate it because I've been without it now for two days.

Have you updated the program? That may solve your problem.

Have you re-registered, as after 14 months (your just over a year) you need to register for iAVS updates. They will then send you a new registration key.

Although, I would have thought you should still be able to see the a icon. So I would suggest that you try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on line to do this.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Thanks for your help Max and David, yes I was updated, and the repair didn't work.  But, good news, I went into prog files/avast/.../ and clicked on the AshDisp icon.  That brought my providers back to my task bar.  Easy as that.  Maybe this will help someone in the future.  Thanks again for the speedy responses. :)

Yodav, it should not be necessary to run ashdisp.exe manually...
If the repair function does not work, you probably has some monitoring startup application (for instance: PrevX or TeaTimer from SpyBot). This application could be avoiding the startup entry for ashdisp.exe to be added. If you can, disable it and repair avast  ;)
