follow instructions on website

uninstall with this and reboot   http://www.avast.com/en-eu/uninstall-utility

install again and reboot

OBS: important, alway remove previous used AV before installing a new.....if you did not
use a removal tool to clear any leftover files that may conflict
run and reboot - Uninstallers - Security software  http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

The 1st link was the  http://www.avast.com/en-eu/uninstall-utility.   I was surprised because I got parts of it deleted and was try to use reg edit to no avail because of the write protection.  I use avast, and malwarebytes and Ccleaner, all the free versions and they have kept this 10yr old desk top pretty snappy.   I have the Verizon fios for internet and it really has a steady speed.  Usually 38 to 40 mbs  on dwn load and 24 to 28 mbs on upload.

What if my computer will not go into safe mode?  I can't run the utility because I can't get my computer to boot into safe mode.  Are there any other options to uninstall?  I can't even do a system restore because it tells me that my antivirus software is blocking it from doing so, even after disabling the avast anti virus.
