add-on to my post 1746 above about thunderbird :)
Thunderbird 2.0 released
The newest version of Mozilla's open-source email client Thunderbird was released today. Thunderbird 2 has a number of enhancements from the previous 1.5 version making it easier to organize messages and keep your inbox secure. Some of the enhancements include:
Message Tagging: You can now tag your email messages with notes such as "Important" or "To Do" to allow you to better filter through messages later.
Message History Navigation: This feature allows you treat Thunderbird like a web browser and tab "Forward" or "Back" through messages as well as toggle between messages and folder views.
Gmail and .Mac integration: Gmail and .Mac users can access their mail within Thunderbird.
Improved Searching: Searches are done more quickly with Thunderbird 2, and popular searches that you do often are saved within the system to make searching easier.
You can check out the full list of enhancements here   http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/features.html

WinPatrol Build 3 Update....
QUOTE
Thanks to the folks who spent the time to let me know what they were experiencing I’ve been able to fix a couple bugs and even added a new feature. We’ve had a number of reports that programs weren’t starting and I think we’ve nailed that one down. The only more common report was why Scotty isn’t barking in Vista. I’m sorry to say that one still hasn’t been addressed even after spending 45 minutes on the phone with Microsoft Vista support
So for now here’s what’s new:
Added new "Open As..." option to Delay Startup program options
Fixed bug moving Startup Folder programs to Delayed Start.
Programs will now start as expected.
NEW Setup/Uninstall program. Much smaller and prevents multiple Add/Remove entries.
Fixed bug when using "Confirm Exit..." option.
Fixed bug adding Programs/Services to “Detected” registry when file no longer exists

Important information about beta releases of a-squared:
a-squared Free & Anti-Malware 2.5 BETA Test
Interested in Beta testing? Download the latest beta build of a-squared Free or a-squared Anti-Malware 2.5 today and tell us your thoughts!
This is what we've changed and created in version 2.5:
    * Vista 32 Support
      Both programs, a-squared Free and a-squared Anti-Malware, work without limiations on Microsoft's latest Windows version.
    * Non-Admin support
      Both programs work with limited user rights now. a-squared Anti-Malware administrators can define specific access rights for non-admin users on the same PC.
    * 50% less memory usage!
      Many users told us to decrease the RAM usage of a-squared. We did it. Both programs need 50% less memory now to run.
    * Extended Malware-IDS
      Only available in a-squared Anti-Malware: The new Malware-IDS runs more robust and comes with many new interesting features. The most wanted new functions: Rootkit protection, Virus protection, Autoruns monitoring and alerts of hidden software installs.
    * Improved HiJackFree
      a-squared HiJackFree is a much more powerful tool than before to assist techs to find and remove Malware manually. The new multifunctional toolbar combines the new Vista like search box with the new filters to hide known good programs quickly. Focus on the real dangers!
Join the Beta test!
Please help us. You don't need to fill an endless form to join the beta test. Simply download the new setup files we created and post your opinion in our forum to help us fixing all bugs that are left. We are especially in need for Vista 32 and Vista 64 testers. Your efforts will be honored!

Comodo BOClean Anti-Malware
Soon to be released ???
#1. If you already have a copy of any earlier BOClean on your machine, UNINSTALL it first! If you have BOClean running on the traybar, right click it, select "shut down BOClean" and that will make it go away. Should you forget to do this, the remover will complain and tell you to do so. There is no harm done if the old BOClean were to be left running, however you'll have two BOCleans running and that will waste resources. The two will not interfere with one another, but you only require one.

#2. In order to properly install the COMODO BOClean 4.23 onto a Vista machine, you *MUST* right click on the downloaded setup programme and select "Run as administrator" to install it properly. For XP and earlier, being administrator/owner is sufficient. A reminder screen will appear when started to warn that it must be installed under the administrator/owner account but people don't read what's right in front of their face. It's NECESSARY to ensure that the kernel driver is properly loaded that the installation be done by administrator and under VISTA, it must be done under "Run AS" ...

#3. Once installed, BOClean will NOT reboot the machine - this is done in order to protect any "works in progress" on the user's machine from accidental loss. However, the kernel driver once installed MUST start at bootup and without a bootup to kick it off, it will not be present until the machine has been rebooted "at your earliest convenience." BOClean will also start automatically after a reboot, it is NOT started by the installer based upon the need for its kernel driver to be present. This is the reason for the reboot requirement rather than just starting BOClean straight away.

Finally, I'm not sure if there's updates for 4.23 being put on the COMODO server - the NSClean site is NOT updating BOClean 4.23 at all ... just 4.22. please bear with us, I've suddenly become overloaded myself.-----from the forum

Mozilla will only supply security and stability upgrades for Firefox 1.5 until mid-May of this year. We encourage all Firefox 1.5 users to visit http://getfirefox.com to download the latest version of Firefox today. We will provide updates as we get closer to the date.
We are focused on delivering a faster and more secure online experience. We want all of our users to benefit from the new features in Firefox 2.0.

Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/using/too...gd/default.mspx
The Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool checks your Internet router to see if it supports certain technologies. You can use this tool on a PC running either the Windows Vista or Windows XP operating system. If you're planning to run Windows Vista, this tool can verify whether your existing Internet router supports advanced features, such as improved download speeds and face-to-face collaboration using Windows Meeting Space.
The tool is intended to be run from a home network behind a home Internet (NAT) router. Running this tool from behind a corporate firewall or on operating systems other than those specified above won't produce accurate results. This tool requires administrator privileges to run.
The tests can require up to 10 minutes to complete and do not make any permanent changes to your router. For the most accurate results, your computer should be connected directly to your Internet router, using a wired connection.
Note Although it is unlikely, testing might interrupt your Internet connectivity or cause your router to stop responding. If you require uninterrupted Internet access at this time (for example, if you are in the middle of downloading a large file, bidding on a time-sensitive Internet auction, or playing an online game), you should wait and do this testing at another time.
NOTE: By using the above tool, IE will install add-on: IGDTool v1.5 which you can disable/enable using IE add-on manager.
