Hi there!
I seriously need help and I have no clue about what to do! I'm freaking out!

I've read a bit about it, and it has lead me here.

My avast alerts me to know that I have a rootkit Alureon at MBR: \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0\partition4. I choose to delete it, but when it reboots it's still there. I'm scared if I do something wrong that I will lose everything.

Please help!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum!

Please go here >>  http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0   Follow the instructions to download and run OTL, Malwarebytes and aswMBR.  Attach the logs that are created into your next reply.  :)

Hi!
I've attached the logs like you asked, but OTL didn't make an extras.txt and aswMBR doesn't want to run.

Hi,

Since aswMBR won't run do the following...

Please download TDSSKiller
  • Right-click and Run as Administrator TDSSKiller.exe
  • Press Change Parameters
  • Check the boxes beside Verify Driver Digital Signature and Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK.
  • Click on the Start Scan button
    • Only if Malicious objects are found then ensure Cure is selected
    • Then click Continue > Reboot now
    • Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.
  • Copy and paste the log in your next reply
    • A report will be created in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply.

Hi,

Re-run TDSSKiller and when you see this entry...  \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 ( TDSS File System ) remove that as well.  Save the log that is created.
--------

Download Combofix from either of the links below, and save it to your desktop.
Link 1
Link 2

**Note:  It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Right-Click and Run as Administrator on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please attach the C:\ComboFix.txt for further review.
In your next reply please attach the logs made by TDSSKiller and ComboFix.  :)

Hi!

I ran TDSSKiller again, but found no malicious objects. I remember that there was one malicious object when I first ran it, which then I decided to cure. I don't know if that was it.

I also ran Combofix, but throughout the whole process it kept throwing a message that "Windows cannot find NIRKMD, make sure you typed the name correctly." I did turn of the antivirus programs, but for some irritating reason, McAfee (The pre-installed program that I did not bother subscribing to, because I like Avast better and had a licence for Avast already) did not want to exit and keeps popping up. Do you want me to run it again?

After Combofix, all my old icons (that disappeared when this calamity started) returned.

I've attached both logs.

Thanks for helping me so far, I feel like I'm beating this thing (with your help obviously :) )...

Hi,
  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:
Code: [Select]
ClearJavaCache::

DDS::
uStart Page = hxxp://www.mymaties.com/

Firefox::
FF - ProfilePath - c:\users\Phill\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\abntbpxj.default\
FF - prefs.js: keyword.URL - hxxp://search.conduit.com/ResultsExt.aspx?ctid=CT3072254&SearchSource=2&q=
  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Hi!

I did what you told me and it generated another log. The same error message still appears though, probably about 20 times throughout the whole process. Is this something I should be worried about?

You usually make me attach the logs, but in your previous post you said that I should copy and paste the report. I tried to do it, but it exceeded the allowed character length.

I've attached the log.

Hi,

Don't worry about the error.  It has to do with ComboFix.
----------

Ok...let's remove McAfee first...

Download and run the tool found here >> http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe  to remove McAfee.
---------

Please delete the current version of Combofix.exe from your desktop and download a new version from here to your desktop.

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications.
  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:
Code: [Select]
RegLock::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\AllUserSettings]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001\AllUserSettings]

Attach the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Hi!

I've done everything and attached the report. Got rid of McAfee. The error didn't show this time, which was a relief. Did disable avast, but it said that it was still active (even though it wasn't).

Hi,

Malwarebytes

I see that you have Malwarebytes already on your computer.  Please open Malwarebytes, update it and then run a Quick Scan.  Save the log that is created for your next reply.
----------

ESET Online Scanner:

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

Vista users: You will need to to right-click on the either the IE or FF icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.

  • Please go here then click on:
  • Quote
Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.[/quote]
  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on:
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is NOT checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on:
  • The virus signature database... will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Now click on:
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

Note: Do not forget to re-enable your Anti-Virus application after running the above scan!
----------

In your next reply please attach the logs made by Malwarebytes and ESET online scanner.

Hi!

I've attached the logs from Malwarebytes and ESET.
How many scans and logs do I still need to do? It seems like everything is back to normal and I haven't received any security notifications or any of those thing for a long time.

Hi,

We are almost done.  We were just checking for anything left hiding in there.  You have done a great job!
----------

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own
folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe (double-click for XP/right-click and Run as Administrator for Vista), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then

    click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe (double-click for XP/right-click and Run as Administrator for Vista) again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.
----------

Run OTL.exe
  • Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL

Code: [Select]
:Services

:Files
C:\Users\Phill\Downloads\ApexDC++_1.5.1_Setup.exe
ipconfig /flushdns /c

:Commands
[purity]
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[clearallrestorepoints]
[start explorer]
[Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered.  There will be a log created when it completes that I will need in your next reply.  Reboot when it is done.
  • Then run a new scan and attach a new OTL log ( don't check the boxes beside LOP Check or Purity this time )

I also did the quick fix with OTL and then did a new scan after it rebooted.

Logs are attached.
