Why can't I re-register ?
« on: April 06, 2012, 07:16:11 PM »
Hi,

Ok, so get an email from avast saying my registration will expire in 30 days and I should renew.  So follow the instructions, go to the maintenance/registration area in Avast, choose the free version, press continue and nothing happens ?  Any ideas?

thanks used the offline method ok.  The online one appears only to work if you're upgrading to the paid version (a bit sneaky ?)

Nothing sneaky about it, it just didn't work for you why it didn't is beyond me, could be busy and or interaction with another security application on your system (commonly firewall).

It has never failed to work for me, lucky I guess.

Not working for me either. I'm on 7.0.1426 with XP Pro SP3 and trying to re-register with the Free option. Clicking continue seems to have no effect.

I tried disabling my Outpost firewall, but that didn't make any difference.

Is this a known issue?

I still have 27 days left, so i will try again over the next few days. If still not working i'll try the offline method.

Since you still have 27 days left I would give it some more time.

I'm not entirely sure what avast process actually does the registration avastUI.exe or avast.setup or avastSvc.exe, so I would check that those have permission in the firewall. If they are there, delete them and that should force the firewall to ask permission again.

Whilst you say that the firewall is disabled, there are times when that just doesn't work as its low level drivers can still be active, I have seen this reported in the forums in the past.
