The Bat! -> avast4 -> SpamWeasel Pro ???

Hi,

I had my setup with The Bat! as email client attaching to Spamweasel Pro to filter out spam. I try to fit avast somewhere into it, but can not get it to work...

Spamweasel requires my mail program to attach to localhost, with userid:  <name>@<pop-server>

avast requires my mail program to attach to localhost, with userid: <name>#<pop-server>

Can anyone give me the settings for The Bat!, avast and spamweasel??

if Spamweasel uses port 110, you have to choose another port for avast, e.g. 111. Insert this line:
PopListen=127.0.0.1:111
to file C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\Avast4\Data\Avast4.ini into section [MailScanner]

Then you have to establish the chain, you have two choices:

server --> avast --> Spamweasel --> Bat
POP server in Bat: 127.0.0.1
POP port in Bat: 110
username in Bat: <name>#<pop-server>@127.0.0.1:111

server --> Spamweasel --> avast --> Bat
POP server in Bat: 127.0.0.1
POP port in Bat: 111
username in Bat: <name>@<pop-server>#127.0.0.1

Also ensure that mail scanner (ashMaiSv.exe) is running.

if you have avast build 4.0.235 and WinNT4, you have to download the fixed version of ashMaiSv.exe from here: http://www2.asw.cz/~peterka/ashMaiSv.exe

I don't see any significant advantage of either choice, maybe you will find some.

Well, after some thought: it might be more important to find out if there is a virus in the mail than to find out if it is spam...

So I will try setting it up as: server->avast->Spamweasel->client
