Is Avast Stopping Me At VirusTotal.Com
« on: May 28, 2012, 01:53:56 AM »
Im trying to use this site to check URL's or my files.  For some reason its not working like it has in the past.

Is my script shield blocking something is something else up here?

Why I cant trust Avasts (at this point, ROFLMAO) results is beyond me, but eveyone (here on this forum) keeps sending me there so I want ot know why its not working like it should be.

No. avast! does not change anything regarding to virustotal. Here is working like a charm, uploading, checking URLs.
Try to find another culprit into your installed programs and/or your settings.

What is your country name?  Iran is currently blocking avast users there from updating their antivirus definitions.  Reason I ask.

@UserA789: if u use the virus total uploader application on ur system, than yes, avast can prevent u from uploading a malicious url from that application.

if u use virustotal webpage to upload urls, no, avast will not block it.

btw, seeing that u have a lot of problems with ur system, why don't u post at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0 to have ur system checked by the experts there? eg. jeffce, essexboy.

Can you show how?
I use VirusTotal Uploader and can upload easily http://eicar.org/download/eicar.com to get scanned.
If I try to direct opening it in a browser, ok, avast! will block it.
But avast! does not seem to be blocking the upload of an "infected" url.

Not blocking me, tested sending otl.exe to VT using the VirusTotal Uploader context menu interface, without problem.

Also went to VT and using the web site upload interface uploaded otl.exe again and selected re-analyse and that too worked just fine. VT is pretty slow right now, but that isn't unusual either.

Im US bound, as other posts of mine point out.  Thanks for asking, I feel VERY sorry for those in Iran and for more than web uses.

Using the webiste directly.  Thanks for asking.

Sure.  Ill show some screenshots of what I get... nothing; as though the webpage isnt even real.

Here is the sequence:

Screenshot 1:  I try to click where it says 'scan a url' (circled in red) and nothing happens at all, other than '#url' being added at the end of the address in the address bar

Screenshot 2:  Trying to choose a file to have it scanned by clicking 'Choose File" button...

Screenshot 3.  After clicking on "Open" button in file upload dialog box.

*** note:  Apparently I have to upload using three posts, so please excuse the method.
