Punkbuster
« on: June 21, 2012, 10:24:33 PM »
Eh...Avast has decided that Punkbuster is a win32:malware gen.

Never had this problem and punkbuster is obviously a genuine program?

So how do i go about getting Avast to accept this as safe?

(ive sent a false positive report)

Seems quite a few people are getting bitten by this on the BF3 forums - although they don't appear to know it.

File is:

(I assume it's safe, but /shrug)

Punkbuster can come out a bit aggressive because it's nature as a cheater detection program. Therefore sometimes it is flagged as generic trojan malware by av solutions. On July 9th Bitdefender produced a FP, and now apparently avast found issues with the executable. So probably a false positive. When reported and actually found to be a FP, avast is known to solve these issues quickly, sometimes with a coming update. So just wait for it to be fixed. Well I see the issue has already been fixed with a new update, while posting this,

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!
