Avast 5 Stopped Running
« on: January 29, 2010, 01:39:19 PM »
This morning the avast! icon in the system tray has a red x on it. When I load the program it says "avast stopped running". It says to click on "Fix It" or "Start Program" to restart it, but when I click on either of them, nothing happens. I can't get it to start again. It won't let me update it or anything because it just keeps saying it's not running. Help!

What Avast! version are you running?  What other security software are you using, even if disabled?  Were you using something else recently, and how did you remove it.  Don't know why it stopped running, but probably worth a reinstall.  First use the uninstaller at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=54385.0  to remove the previous installation.  Then go to the Avast! website and download the latest 5.0.396 version and install that.
Windows 7 x64HP-SP1-No UAC, Opera 11.51, Avast! Internet Security 6.0.128, Webroot SecureAnywhere latest beta, Windows FW off, MVPS HOSTS, SAS/MBAM offline, Macrium Reflect just in case ;)
