Title: V2016 Beta is HERE! (2016.11.1.2234)
Post by: MartinZ on October 01, 2015, 12:07:22 PM
Hi all,

I am excited to announce the release of first beta V2016: AVAST 2016 B1 (build number 2016.11.1.2234).

Compared to the last "boring" beta releases, this is again pure beta with bugs so feel free to report them back via forum or new feedback form in the program.
We also welcome any feedback on the new features and changes, of course.

Changes:

NEW: Passwords - Avast can now manage your passwords and generate strong passwords for you. Just one password to remember.
 - checks your passwords security
 - stores your passwords securely
 - includes browser extensions for easier logging in and form filling
 - generates strong passwords

NEW: SafeZone browser - Replaced the SafeZone for safer shopping and banking

   - Pay Mode: runs automatically on banking sites (This isolates the session and protects it from possible keyloggers or other malicious software secretly lurking on your computer. With Pay Mode you can perform all your financial transactions in peace, without fear of your password or other personal details being stolen. Pay Mode can be also turned on manually directly via browser UI.)

   - HTTPS scanning while preserving the original certificate

   - Optionally, some extensions such as Ad Blocker and Video Downloader (potentially useful as SafeZone doesn't support add-ons for security reasons).

NEW: User interface
- More space for content, easy control

NEW: Feedback possible directly from program
- report bugs, feature requests and other suggestions easier

IMPROVED: Home network security
now detects more router vulnerabilites and shows more details

IMPROVED: Installation - it should be now faster and less obtrusive.

+ Many other minor tweaks and fixed

How to install:

1. If you have installed some beta version before you can update it to this latest version via Settings->Update->Program.

2. Or you can download and install from here:

http://files.avast.com/beta9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/beta9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/beta9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/beta9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe

How to provide feedback
Please for specific issues set a new topic in the Beta section (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=15.0). For general open discussion feel free to use this thread.

Or use the feedback form in the AV program or in the SafeZone browser.

Known issues:

- Unable to log in to Avast Account through Cleanup
- Missing content for Network issues in Smart Scan
- Browser extension Avast Online Security is not being installed in Firefox
- Passwords extension in IE doesn't work correctly
- Loosing the first device that starts using Passwords might cause blocking of Avast Account (only if synchronization is enabled, by default turned off)
- “Shielded Window” mode in SafeZone browser doesn't work yet.
- Web Reputation, Do-Not-Track and Safe Price features are not functional in SafeZone browser
- Ad blocker sometimes needs restart of the SafeZone browser to start working (occurs only once)
- Avast Passwords doesn;t work in SafeZone browser yet
- It is impossible to deactivate the Pay Mode for sites which are automatically switched in to this mode

Avast cleaner:
http://files.avast.com/beta9x/avastclear.exe

It should be possible to install this version on top of your existing avast! installation (all settings should be preserved).

To report BSODs, crashes or any other none trivial problems please use new SupportPackage generating tool.

Instructions how to use it can be easily found:

We are looking forward for your feedback!

Thank you
Avast team

I cleaned up the thread a bit (and modified the original post with some additional explanations).

Guys, please try to be factual with your feedback. There have been like 20 responses already (become I cleaned them up) and very little essence.

Regarding security features, yes, a bunch of improvements in v 2016 -- especially on the cloud side -- but as you know, many of these don't really follow the main product releases. I.e. they are being tested/released as we go.

NG support in W10 -- I'm not sure about this one, but I would expect it coming soon.

BTW unless you have seen already, this is a brief description of what the Avast cloud currently looks like: https://www.avast.com/technology

There will be more announcements coming in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks
Vlk

I quite like the new notifications, but for resolution like 1366x768, it's a bit too wide.

Post by: Secondmineboy on October 01, 2015, 03:14:23 PM
That might be a glitch due to the new UI design, i guess that will be fixed later :)

I guess they are supposed to be so wide like that red bar is.

Not even HD-Resolution in my VM: http://prntscr.com/8mj3xd

Theres a new DeepScreen popup as well.

Yeah, seems like so. I've restarted the VM and it displays as intended now :)

So far so good. No hiccups, no issues. We'll see how this beta goes. One thing I noticed: Avast Free online setup does not let user uncheck SafeZone browser.

EDIT:
I liked the PUP part of the introduction slides. I hope it returns.

In Windows 10 Insider Preview build 10547, I never got a chance to go beyond this.
Once the computer rebooted, I was greeted with the following:
Once I hit the Resolve button, the system froze. Rebooting didn't help.
Each time the system came up, it locked up once the avast icon appeared in the sys tray.
I've now totally removed AIS and am about to try the free version.

NEW: Passwords - Avast can now manage your passwords and generate strong passwords for you. Just one password to remember.
 - checks your passwords security

 - generates strong passwords

So EasyPass will be discontinued with v.2016? LOL, I still have almost 3Y of licence left and it seems with v.2016 it will be useless  ;D Will it be able to import all passwords from EasyPass?

You will be able to import your passwords from EasyPass, you will also get premium features of Avast Passwords for free.

Wow, this Beta really came as a surprise for me :)
As I have to make some preparations first, I will take a look at it in the weekend.

Known issues:
...
- “Shielded Window” mode in SafeZone browser doesn't work yet.

I guess this is the "SafeMode" for dangerous websites, so you can run them on a separate browser in a Virtual Machine ?
At least that was the description I got earlier.

Greetz, Red.

Cautiously optimistic from the windows 10 build 10547 land

Installed OK

No flashy white screen :)
No hang on reboot :)
IE works (yet to test Edge) :)
Shutdown still to test

Scans are still as fast
Safezone appears to work

EDIT :  Edge appears to be OK as well
I will now give it a multi-boot/reboot work out :)

Thanks gents

The bad so far...
1) Installed then "unprotected">clicked "fix now">nothing>did a repair>now "protected".
2) Not sure about SafeZone Browser>no information.
3) GUI is really bland and has no color>at least v8.0 had color>worst looking GUI ever.
4) What happened to the tabs on the left side.
5)Clean install>unable to import "backed-up" settings.
6) Hard Disk is two words.

The good so far...
1) "Processed File" and "Infected files" back on the scan screen.

The configure button under Firewall is quite useless as it brings the usual Application rules, but does not open specified software settings there. So there should be only one bigger "Configure".
Or it should open Application rules with specified software menu opened - like this http://snag.gy/ZxNvn.jpg

Chicken ;)

I have just installed/updated from the 2233 UI - that said I got a system hangup after boot which required a hard restart.

How does the new Safe Zone work in avast free - my guess is it doesn't given that previously this was paid only - if so, why would this be included in the free version. I only noticed it as WinPatrol Plus flagged it.

Installed over 2015.10.4.2233 Premier via GUI. No problems so far, working fine here :)

GUI looks quite empty, but its coloring is not so bad for me.
It looks like a picture of horizon. 8)

Avast! Safezone Internet Browser Use too many Process and that is effect my system preformance,Ad blocker of does not block any ad on website on safezone Browser.I check that.
Confirmed, but not so much memory; memory usage of each processes is rather small.

BTW... What is this "D" button in Home Network Security? (See attached image)

Don't know if it is working properly in XP either. Previous version of avast 2233, the Home Network Security scan was very quick. The 2016.11.1.2234 Home Network Security scan is taking an eternity, spinning outer core but progress indicator appears to be stalled.

As mentioned Stop does nothing. Looks like I will have to kill avastUI.exe to stop this scan. Self-defence module disabled and it took name end processes in task manager to eventually kill avastUI and the Home Network Security scan.

I can see this Iconised UI being a lot of hassle, when trying to explain how to find things to users.

For now only the Main page and sub-pages have changed, the settings are exactly the same than in Avast 2015.

Its basically the sidebar moved to the top and a new start page for the status, its not that hard to get used to it :)

I can't even install the Beta. Totally locks up my system. I'm back on the last stable release.  :(

Links for downloading the install are dead?  Anyone else having problems with this?

The update from 10.4.2xxx went fine but would like to have the download anyway.

SafeZone shortcut on desktop was removed by the update (only issue so far that no one else has reported).

It's due to localization. Currently we only have (en-us) locale translations and working on translations for other languages. It's a good spot, we will implement fallback locale in next beta :)

Probably best to create  a new topic in the beta forum and expand on the why you feel you can't do this.

Hi dbrisendine,
you mentioned that SafeZone shortcut was removed. Are you using Free or Premium version of the Beta?
Links for downloading the install are dead?  Anyone else having problems with this?

The update from 10.4.2xxx went fine but would like to have the download anyway.

SafeZone shortcut on desktop was removed by the update (only issue so far that no one else has reported).

I was using Internet Security BETA.  It installed over the 10.4.223x BETA and went down hill from there.  I think that the SecureDNS blocked my wireless adapter custom DNS settings (I use some other than my ISP's).  Each reboot of my system made matters worse until I removed the BETA, used the BETA AvastClear and reinstalled the IS BETA.  Same results; Internet access blocked (no DNS servers found was the result of the Win10 MS TroubleShooter).  Changed to standard DNS settings (Obtain DNS address automatically) with same issue of losing the Internet connectivity.  I am using a wireless router hard wired to a bridged ISP modem/router (if this makes any difference to the DNS routing).

Sorry but had to remove the BETA as I have to have Internet access to assist users with malware removal.

The answers are already given in this topic :

Avast Passwords will be free. We will add some premium features, but they aren't ready for beta yet.

You will be able to import your passwords from EasyPass.

Hi, so did you try turning SecureD s off? Did that help?

There are no significant changes in the way how SecureDNS works now when compared to the latest official release (10.4).

If turning securedns resolves your problems I'd really like to know more about your dns setup. We might be able to detect such cases and tune Securedns to work in such cases as well.

Lukas

Passwords ain't a free product and there are no options to import LastPass Credentials.
Will stick with Lastpass since it Gives Access Any Where function without the need of paying any thing. Can install on Any System any where and just log into your lastpass account and all details are there. Simply.

Was expecting something like that, but well, It just turned out to be EasyPass re named and the price line to too huge compared to the fact that can get all the functions for free with lastpass any way.

Sorry there avast! That was not a nice move. :)
Good Looks though. Nice interface on the SecureZone browser and the password manager.

Avast Passwords with synchronisation across devices will be for free! Forever!
There are going to be premium features, avast will introduce them later. That price you see in market is for premium and honestly I'm not sure if it is final one.
Avast Passwords will offer import from cvs file as it is Easy pass capability so if Last Pass or any other can export your credentials to text file you can just simply modify it to import them into Avast Passwords. This functionality is not yet finished but will be there in final release for sure.

Since I've installed this Beta on my 'Laptop A' only, I'm still astonished: did anybody of the Devs had one idea concerning the lot of avast! users, who are behind 70 years old and using '10.4.2233 free'?
I'm coaching seniors since years and can't offer them this product!

Why ?

They are unable to handle it! (Some old heads can't manage right.)

Strange, this old head has no problems and the Seniors I teach are also not having any problems. :)

1. First attempt to install over 2015 version and on next reboot, after logging in, blank screen forever with disk activity in background. Tested twice.
2. Clean installation and the setup crashed.

Avast Passwords with synchronisation across devices will be for free! Forever!

Not yet the products page shows Passwords listed with a price while easy pass is not shown, Will wait until the options roll in and if passwords provide sync across all devices and also a cloud storage option then it would be fine. If cloud storage option is not feasible to be provided for free users then give an option to use a cloud service such as Gdrive, One Drive or Drop Box as a Storage option with some strong Encryption. That can take the load out of avast! servers.

As David suggested this should probably be discussed in it's own topic. :)

Beta testing isn't for everyone. That's why it's called a beta. If you use beta software you also need to accept the risks.
Creating an Image backup prior to attempting any Beta is always a good idea.
The safe thing to do is to wait till the final version is released. :)

I've Tested before, I know the risks, I did have image created, Image restored now, so just tidying up a few things, and back to normal here.    I've tested previous Avast releases, Microsoft Security Essentials on XP/old vista system til I went to WIndows 8.0, and resumed using Avast on those secondary systems,  Always create an image before I attempt to test anything myself here.

I can't install... setup just crash after I click "Install" or "Customize" in the very first window.
It fails to upgrade from Avast 2015.
Uninstalling Avast 2015 with Avast clear at Safe Mode and trying a clean installation fails at the same point.
Repeated 3 times.

Using latest Windows Insider version. Windows Defender disabled.

Lukas

1)  Turning SecureDNS off did make a difference; immediately shut off Internet access.
2)  One other point (now that you mention things different from released version) --->  Home Network Security
     a)  Part of Smart Scan - ran but reported there was an report of unsecure network (this is the same as the released version)
     b)  stand alone scan - started and just hung at 0% for like 30 minutes (unlike released version, which actually reports that everything is fine).  Had to hard reset the system (via power).

My conclusion on all of this is that there are issues with the firewall driver.  But I am just guessing as I have not had time to dig further into this.

Just confirming the beta works fine with Windows 10 build 10558.
No problems at all during the upgrade process and everything is working as it should be at the desktop.

Did you do a clean install or install over the top of the existing 10.4.2233 version - that shouldn't require re-registration, it should be recognised ?

Try logging on using your browser at my.avast.com, check the Remember me and don't log out. Now check accessing your avastUI Registration it should show your existing details.

Have you tried an avast Repair because it could be some sort of corruption ?
But it could also be an issue with the registration servers.

Did you try logging on to your existing my.avast.com as I suggested and see if your device is recognised ?

See attached image, you can also use that (little down arrow to access manage accounts, you can login to an existing account (and see if this one is present or or add this one). But I believe using your browser to see your avast account is less complex.

It may also be better to take this out into its own topic (in the beta sub-forum) to avoid it getting buried in this already large topic.

Then I entered the myavast account and see only the device when he was older versions of Avast but this does not detect it, now I have to try to repair avast

And a connection problem most likely due to the fact that they are connected behind a proxy server, if I do I repair this error:

This is getting to be much more of an issue and I do suggest creating a new topic as this is just going to get lost in this already very large topic.

That said, if I use the Add New Account option (as in my attached image above) then I too get the message 'The online content is unavailable.' But if I use the Manage Accounts, it recognises me and the my.avast.com account I'm connected to. If in this screen I can click the Add new account and with that I have a login screen - this I can enter the my.avast.com account I already have.

As I said this whole process would appear to be easier using your browser logged in at my.avast.com..

Sounds like the system was on the beta-channel then.
A clean reinstall with the latest stable build should fix it.

@Be Secure... that's because it seems that is made from chromium that uses several process.
Anyway, that's not a problem, it's an advantage instead.
In other words, thanks to some process, it's able to load more ram (when and if needed) and, more important, if a tab crashes, other tabs will still be available 'cause they are indipendent.

According to RejZoR SafeZone Browser shows 8 processes running even when not using the browser. I would say that is a bit much.

Support Ticket: #BYU-790-31187
AVAST ACCOUNT BUG IN AVAST GUI
CREATED: 01 APRIL 2015 22:17
UPDATED: 02 OCTOBER 2015 23:39

TO AVAST DEVELOPERS:

Long story short. During that time mentioned above I had Avast Free 2015 R2 SP1 2015.10.2.2215. This bug I discovered was in the previous two versions of Avast 2015 and it happens after you sign in to avast account via Avast GUI. Signing in is fine, but when you see the pie chart what features you have installed i.e. Avast Software Updater and etc. It shows not installed and in red colour. I tried everything did repair and restarted (nothing happens). I uninstalled avast via add/remove, used avast uninstall utility and the tool ran my computer in safe mode, followed instructions, installed a fresh copy of Avast 2015, and restarted (still nothing happens). Avast Support tech is now aware of this and gave my feedback to the team which is working on it so that they can count it in when developing the aforementioned update and  major changes i.e. in this regard will be applied in the next major update expected in a couple of months.

Full details, descriptions, and screenshots are all available in that support ticket. I hope to see this fixed in beta/RC/and final release of Avast 2016. I don't install beta programs because I use my laptop for personal use. Thanks.

Can someone please report my post to moderators so an avast team member can have a look at it. This bug has been in for a long time since Avast 2015. Thanks.

Despite the reported problems of access and Avast account for the fact that during the updating of the definitions does not write the date of the last update I have to say that as time scanning and protection this beta 2016 is much better than the release in 2015 and I'm trying on Windows 10

Updated from the latest stable to .2234 via GUI.
On the first glance everything worked as advertised, but then I saw this remark in the main GUI (see picture "DNS"):
"Secure DNS can't run on this network"
Since I did not alter anything on my network I am wondering if there is any new requirements for networks to allow working of "Secure DNS". It was always working with versions .2233 and earlier.

Multiple reboots, "Repair", "Clean Install" and switching "Secure DNS" off and on did have no effect!
Did I miss something?

Hi guys :)

I was a few days away from home, but now I have ( finally ) joined Beta testing.
First thing I noticed, is that I have an issue with my Avast Account in the UI ( 2nd screenshot ).
And there is the issue with Secure DNS, although I don't think that is Beta related.

That's right Red, also reported by users of the stable build.

First impressions of the SafeZone browser :

- I would prefer if Avast creates a SafeZone browser desktop icon by default ( like in the old version ), although you can easy create one yourself.
- The SafeZone user interface is pretty "massive" ( see screenshots ). I would prefer a more "minimal" interface.

With much interest I see that even if you have Windows 10 you page appears content offline when trying to authenticate in avast account.

For developers: as an update on Build 2016?

There was a server problem yesterday which was fixed very quickly.
That problem isn't a problem any more. :)

Do most of them already work in both v2015 and v2016? Or there is still some of them thats gonna be deployed during v2016 beta cycle?

I really liked the new interface it is much prettier than the previous interface 2015 so we need to learn how to work in it and also have another doubt avast password will be free?
Yes, Passwords feature will be free and multi-platform (Windows, iOS, Android, later Mac). There will be also premium version with some extra features, but for general usage free is fine.

Looks like another bug in the beta or related to XP not having the APIs in relation to HTTPS scanning as I get the Web Shield has blocked access to -https://api.prntscr.com - the link posted appears to have an internal internal link/redirect to -https://api, though I don't see it.

I see the image, as that is on the -http:/prntscr.com page, firefox is objecting to insecure connection to -https://api.prntscr.com as I mentioned and confirmed in my attachment.

That you would presumably have to ask prntscr.com.

Or avast as I mentioned XP doesn't have the same HTTPS scanning interface, since HTTPS scanning is on in avast, I just wonder if even though the page isn't https, it still checks for secure certificate.

About the LastPass export -> import Avast Passwords question, found another way until this gets sorted out:

1. LastPass in Firefox: Tools > Export > Firefox (and you have all passwords temporarily saved in the browser)
2. Avast: Settings > Import from Browser
3. optional: if you wish delete them from Firefox
4. optional: enable sync to all browsers/devices

Best regards,
FF
