I like the concept.
Are there any plans or way clicking on the image expands it like in the forums, rather than it opening in the same tab or having to open it in a new tab as this breaks the flow of the blog ?
-
What will be the contents of the blog compared with the forum?
-
Good idea with the blog, and also very nice!
I hope for reading some interesting stuff there ;)

Very Nice, Thanks Vlk.

Haha, most of the pics from Caro in Budapest are from same locations as when i was there with Philips (we visited their Székesfehérvár assembly plant).
I remember those gypsy shows with horses, that huge cathedral (they were renewing it back then already). And we were even in the same restaurant. "palinka" is the word that i remembered the best from there ;D
-
nice move VlK :)
-
the content wil be updated soon, i must copy+paste some prepared articles :)

A very good idea, indeed ! :)

evangelists: just my curiosity - what type of content would be interesting for you? formal, non-formal or even funny? detailed or something for the average Joe? i'm not saying we'll absolutely follow your responses, but i think i can inspire a bit with them ;)

Well, the article for Allaple is totally out of my league but would be nice if you guys would write a bit about AV technologies in general (even competitors stuff) and explain new features that are in avast! and the ones that will follow in a near future.
For example right now some hints about avast! 5 and what new it'll end up in it and why that particular tech is good. This kind of stuff is always interested to read and may attract new users after reading the blog. Funny things here and there also don't hurt. Blog is not an official thing like official webpage so it's usually nice to see the fun side of the staff behind the "serious" mask. Makes it closer to the users.
-
evangelists: just my curiosity - what type of content would be interesting for you?
Non-technical (antivirus) ones. From av marketing, plans for the future.
Non-formal will be good if users can login and participate in somehow.
Funny, sure, it's not bad to see the staff drinking bear ;D

I forward this two suggestions.
I also would be very interested in some backround information about whats going on in your company; future plans; new technologies; and so on...
Like Tech and RejZoR said. :)

Commenting is now open (after registration). In case of problems, let me know.

Thanks for that, are there any plans to have a similar image function as the forums, where clicking on it expands the image in place and doesn't open in a new page ?
-
DavidR: it's all about the capabilities of WordPress... there's maybe some space to put an javascript, but we'll wait for the final layout etc..

Thanks.

I would suggest you add an icon to the avast! team blog... like it is on the web-forum...
I know its probably hard to understand what I mean, but I posted a picture to make it easier. :)

If it is in the nature of the employees to be photographed at work, parties, whatever, (in a nutshell, to want to include the Avast users in their activities), great.
I'm not terribly technically minded, but enjoy articles about how worms etc spread translated from the original geekish. ;D
Future plans, any reference to how things are going at the company, whatever you think might be interesting. (Maybe avoid the weather. Unless it is reference to another Storm worm.)

I would suggest you add an icon to the avast! team blog...
It was working for other browser than IE. Now fixed also for IE.

I always liked to read the topical stuff about the Alwil team and the photographs in the news items.
Also the up to date findings about developments and changes in malware practices.
You've made a good start. Congratulations on your foresight.

I had to clean my browser history and temporary files that I could see it, but now it works. :)

An interesting new entry from the 18th on Google searches, http://blog.avast.com/2009/06/18/google-new-malware-hosting/#more-214 (http://blog.avast.com/2009/06/18/google-new-malware-hosting/#more-214).
A new type of malware has been found today which uses the Google search engine database for hosting. Werner Klier (virus researcher from GData) pointed us to one very puzzling result of Google search. This result was detected as malware with avast! from the beginning. It is however a very interesting approach from malware creators – using Google to host their malware.

Just saw this, good idea! Have added it to my RSS feeds.

I think it's cool. They're using the same theme that I'm using for my blog (slightly modified of course).
I don't know how useful it will be for them, since they have a website and a forum already, but good for them.
Now all they need is a twitter account, and they'll be down with the rest of the teens...
-
So long as they don't use YouTube, etc. a target for much malware ;D

I don't know who to turn to. I have avast antivirus home free edition downloaded and working well (I think).
HOWEVER, I have an 'Alpha Antivirus' program that 'popped up' on my computer screen, supposedly did a scan and notified me that I have 42 severe threats to my computer and that I need to download Alpha Antivirus immediately to the tune of $70-$90 depending on what program I choose.
Every time I go to my internet explorer, the screen changes to 'about: blank' and a message pops up with 2 choices: to install their product now, or, continue with unprotection and severe threats. I keep deleting. found their website, tried to contact them and couldn't get it to work; tried their address as they listed: info@internetsecurityinc.com and it comes up as an invalid address. My question to you is: Do you know how I will be able to get rid of this whole alpha antivirus mess? the scan by avast indicates that all is fine....can you please direct me to someone out there in computer land that I can complain to or report....or at least get rid of their infomation? AND, HOW CAN A COMPANY JUST COME ONTO MY COMPUTER LIKE THAT???? THANKS. a happy avast.com customer; snibbets@roadrunner.com...have a nice day! :)

1. Please start a New Topic of your own as this seems unrelated to the original subject and will just confuse the topic and we will try to help.
- Go to this link, http://forum.avast.com/index.php (http://forum.avast.com/index.php), scroll down to the Viruses and Worms forum and click it, click the New Topic button at the top of the list and post there.
What ever you do don't allow it to run a scan or visit any site it suggests or pay as you could be properly infected. This is rogue/scamware.
Do not contact them all that does is give them your email.
2. I suggest you remove your (all) email address from the post unless you are partial to spam.

I have a virus on my laptop that won't allow virus software to be downloaded. Is there a way to put the virus software on a jump drive so I can clean my laptop?
-
Hello sue91156,
It would be better to start a new topic about your problem in the viruses & worms section of the forums.
Thank you for your cooperation.
-
You should find out who Skype used for that voiceover work and hire her for your app. Love her Brit accent!!
All joking aside, actually wasn't a joke....you should!! Great new look and functionality. Much thanks!!

Hi Vik;
just a question i'm running with Avast5 free but windows defender is running too should i use only avast and all the protection and unistall windows defender????
win Xp Pro sp3,AMD athlon64 4 gi ram adsl
-
Moonraker,
You can leave windows defender on your computer... Doesn't affect Avast in my opinion.
Better to ask questions like this in your own thread though, not one that is about announcing the "Avast Team Blog".
-
Other than when avast happens to detect its unencrypted virus signatures it deposits in memory.
-
So where do I look for fixes to AV version 5 issues? I can't connect to the internet with it installed using XP, but the free version does? I need answers for the money I spent? how do I get customer support?
-

Here, in forums is a good place. Start your own new thread for it.
Also you can try support (at) avast (dot) com
-
Why not create a section where we can submit undetected samples (malware) by avast!? I would love to upload files through this way, because I do not feel safe doing it through email or through avast! chest. Something like Microsoft Malware Protection Center.
-
I don't really see how your question is related to this topic.
However, you are entirely safe submitting samples through the chest (a protected area). Though at this moment the 5.0.507 version of avast there is a problem submitting samples, this is resolved in the pre-release version 5.0.544, which should be released soon.
-
I wouldn't get an avast licence from anywhere other than through official channels as you never know what you might get. No slight intended this user has been on the forums for one week and his first post kind of contridicts his offer.
i have got a key but not the licence file can any one help me how to insert the key in the file plzzzzzz

No problem, feel free to get back here..!

Cookie is the culprit. Deleting all avast-related cookies solve my problem.
Now I can see avast blog on Firefox 8)
Thank you!
Ugh... same problem again... :(
I can see top page and some posts... but others are blank...
-
By the way... the last blog entry is from May 3rd... quite boring don't you think?

Yeah, this must be on my PC.
I already tried clearing browser cache. It seems this isn't firefox problem: now IE8 also shows exactly the same symptom.
This happens only on avast blog so far. Now I search patterns / culprit of this problem.
Thanks for your supports.

- Go to this link, http://forum.avast.com/index.php (http://forum.avast.com/index.php). Select the avast! Free/Pro/Suite forum and click it, click the New Topic button (see image, click to expand) at the top of the list and post there.

Hi, I have updated my avast! virus protection, run malware and spybot, cleaned history file on both browsers, but am having an ongoing problem with a pop up that says avast averted a malicious url. The fake address is always clikcpixielabn.com which is then followed by changing numbers and letters following the .com. This message pops up whether I use Mozilla or IE and frequently hits as soon as I start to type something in on the search bar - whether it's to go to hotmail, weather, anything can trigger it. If you go to more information it informs you that for some additional amount of money you can upgrade your Avast. I think this is dangerous and may be a way of getting your financial information and must be happening to others.
In another matter that I think is NOT related, I am getting this annoying Kevin's Road to Riches which I cannot close and only can get rid of by using the task bar to end program.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The address bar comes up http://www.localtribune.org/Finance/Jobs/index2.php?from=113594_ron
Please help, thanks.

If I remember rightly is is the Avast! Virus Database has been updated over the PA during the Womens Wrestling bout. I guess you didn't view the video then, why the blog is in Polish is a bit strange
-
The avast community isn't just english speaking ;)
Our community is truly multinational, so we decided to start writing on our blog also in other languages than in English. We hope that in this way our blog will be more accessible.
-
I know it isn't but you only have to check out the other blogs to see why I mentioned it.
Since avast uses globalisation it normally offers pages with the language that you are using/located.
-
(guessing here ;)) on the globalisation thought, maybe since the blog only had English previously that may not be implemented (or not possible with Wordpress - Don't know)
I did suggest in a comment, that language categories were added, as you can take an rss feed off a category, so you could pick your language if you choose to
-
Going back it doesn't look like they have the Blog set to globalisation as there is no /eng/, etc. in the URL, so it looks like one site.
-
It was kind of test from our side. In future we want to publish articles also in other languages than English. These articles will be in the Multilanguage Corner category and will have some summary in English on the top, maybe with link to the google translate into English... Depends on Julia and Milos, I think.
-

Who will be written them?

:D ;) :) nice to see you are developing new things everyday!!! best wishes

i am from romania is a good boy and I have a REQUEST from your antivirus expired and I need a license key for the latest version, please do not have the money to do a twist, please have a much greater confidence in my avast Email galeata_ionut@yahoo.com
-
First this is not a topic to ask this as it is unrelated, hijacking.
Second, if you can't afford the license then use the free version, no one will give you a license for a paid version. http://www.avast.com/en-gb/free-antivirus-download (http://www.avast.com/en-gb/free-antivirus-download)
Third remove your email address from your post unless you are partial to spam.

Yes, Chocholo is right.
As our community is global, and our blog is not, we decided to ask our in-house team members, who also help us greatly with translation/localization, if they would be willing to help out. It's a sporadic effort because of that, but you'll gradually see various language corners appear in the list of categories, with only English posts set to display on the blog home page.
Right now we've got about a dozen non-English blog posts - Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Japanese, Czech, and Turkish. It wouldn't take much to expand this, but our people are busy enough with their primary responsibilities. It will grow, though.
BTW, here's the latest "5 Questions" interview, with our longest-running team member, Vladimir Cernik: https://blog.avast.com/2011/06/29/5-questions-with-vladimir-cernik-lead-virus-analyst/
-

Basically, Tech, they're people in all departments at AVAST...sales, sales/tech support, eCommerce, you name it. Management are total wizards in terms of finding the best talent (before Google or other such companies grab them). E.g., eCommerce dept. just hired a young (to me) girl who speaks about 8 languages. One of our tech support guys is similar (see interview with Martin Cohen: https://blog.avast.com/2011/03/16/5-questions-with-martin-cohen-tech-support-specialist/).
As a 3rd-gen American, I am typically in awe of anyone's multilingual prowess. My great-grandparents all combined probably spoke 8 or 9 tongues... and by my mom and dad's generation it was down to 1 :o (known as 'assimilation' to Americans... and similar to 'normalization' to the former Eastern Bloc).

Thanks. If anybody is feeling alone and want to talk in English or Portuguese or Spanish... I have Skype :)
-
I have purchased and used Avast for some years. However, I'm noticing some troubling trends.
Example: AutoSandbox. What an annoying new "feature".
I'm hoping that Avast is not going the way to the bloated, glitchy, useless, annoying Norton products. I've checked around and I am not alone in this concern.

Welcome to the forum,
Please start your own topic since what you're trying to discuss has nothing to do with the Avast team blog.

Hey, I'm on more often than Tech! At least I think so... ???

Ok. my personal Skype is one. The avast help one is almost off all the time. I really do not use two Skypes at a time (bigamy)).
-
Thanks. If anybody is feeling alone and want to talk in English or Portuguese or Spanish... I have Skype :)
Spanish speaking friends of mine tell me they can understand Portuguese and Italian due to all three are latin based.
So you should be able to talk to Italians also.
Maybe I missed something? I only speak English.
I did take a year of Conversational Japanese when I lived on Okinawa. I spent over two years on the Keystone of the Pacific.
Any fans of KSBK here on avast! forums?
