VIRUS or TROJAN ON MY SYSTEM-Disabled my Avast Anti-virus!!!!

I installed the update, but it DID NOT fix the problem.
Out of frustration, I decided to go ahead and try another system restore because
I have not been getting anywhere. I did a system restore previously,
but this time I looked back on this forum with you and picked a better date (3/5)
right after I was showing my system to be running OK when you said it looked clean.
It was a successful restore. AVAST IS RESTORED AND RUNNING!!!
I am running a full scan now. I am doing a custom scan including rootkits.
What else do you suggest to do??

Update: Full scan is running, all seems to be working EXCEPT the progress bar keeps showing zero.
does this mean it isnt working properly?

Yes. After over an hour, the progress bar is finally showing 3%
and so far showes it has found one infected file.
i will let you know what it finds when finished.

OK it is probably building its cache list as well so it may take a while

Just found out that Avast uses C++ 2008 SP1

The scan finished and found one High treat Rootkit file...
It is a TEMP file called TEMP\CLEARFI\CARBARC.EXE (Clearfi came on my comp., but I never use it)
I tried deleting it, but it says "THe system cannot find file specified."
Should I reboot? Should I try a boot scan? What else should I do?

It is just a temporary file so clearing the temp folders will remove it.  But it is a false positive anyway

Yes, it is working OK.
It is currently running a boot scan.

As it is an either or file that can be used for good or bad in this case it is part of a known programme

I have given it a couple days to monitor how my system is operating.
Things seem OK. My Avast is working properly. Is there anything else I can do
to make sure there aren't any viruses/trojans on my system still other than running a scan?
What else do you recommend doing at this point?
I still have OTL & ADWCleaner on it.

I am so thrilled it is running ok now!!!!
