Problem with auto update
« on: September 17, 2012, 10:53:15 PM »
I have Avast set to auto update but for some reason it didn't do that today.

Any ideas why it didn't?  ???

avast will check for updates when computer is turned on and it detect a connection ....and download if there are any updates
if the computer is left on it will check for updates every 240 min (default) and download if there are any

usually they release two updates a day ....more if needed and some days none as you will see from the link above

Once you do a manual update, it will take 4 hrs till the next check happens.
Since it hasn't been that long, don't expect any.
Checking for updates and receiving an update are also 2 different things.
It may check for an update but if there aren't any, then there will not be an
update and the clock starts again.

I just checked to see whether or not Avast had been recently updated and it showed "Last attempt 59 minutes ago."   That means it tried to update but was unable to?
I had to do a manual update.  I don't understand why it's not automatically updating.

Well 59 minute ago when your AV searched for an update there may of not been one but later when you checked one was obviously released, your avast default settings are to search for updates every 4 hours, at minimal this can be set to search every two hours ( free version ) if you choose too   settings/updates/details

Mine just updated too 120918-0 two minutes ago at which it states last update attempt 2 minute ago.
