Can't Update & VPS DL Error codes
« on: October 05, 2012, 03:40:48 AM »
I can't get avast to update on it's own; no error message, it just states the time it took to check - that's it. I tried downloading the vps package to do it manually, but it failed with this list of codes:

Ver:7.0.1466
SI:0x00000002
ST:0x20000011
LE:0x00000000

I tried to run the Repair as well, but it failed and told me to use the full vps package or w/e. A little help, pretty please? >,O I'm on Win7 64x, avast free edition. Thanks!

EDIT: Guess this would help XD Version 7.0.1466, Virus Definitions Version 121003-2.

I'm having the same exact difficulty: avast won't update on it's own, tried manually and it basically got stuck, tried repair and got errors (copied log in case that will help but it's basically many lines of second by second time stamp of attempts and failures), restarted, tried vpsupd and that failed by telling me that it's older than the virus def version I have, which is still showing 121003-2.

My specs are the same as yours with Win7, Version 7.0.1466, free version.

Thanks ahead of time for any help offered.

Edit: thanks for the reply and thread link, Tech.  Guess we're all still waiting then.

Repair avast!:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

Thank you, however I have already tried that (including just now) and still get this: "error processing packages, please use full updates", which is the same problem others are having, from what I've read on here.

Auto update also failed again this morning. There must still be issues.

Running Win7 64 bit, free version 7.0.1.466, still sitting at update version 121003-2.

Here are the last few lines from the log after the failed repair, just for fun:

Try this:

For those of you who are are using the regular release version 7.0.1466, and the repair failed - 'Error processing packages. Please use full update.' - then this worked for me on my win7 netbook with 7.0.1466:

Then you will need to do a Manual update of VPS - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 67.5 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.

If you don't want to go through that process, then wait for the avast team to resolve it, which hopefully won't take too long.

Thank you reposting this. It worked the other day but hasn't worked the last couple of times that I've tried.

Here is the most recent error message:

"Can't install VPS update. Please report following error codes:
Ver: 7.0.1466
SI: 0x00000002
ST: 0x20000011
LE: 0x00000000."

I really don't want to either uninstall/reinstall if at all possible, so if anyone has any other suggestions or ideas.
Thanks again.

If the avast Repair and the download of the full Manual virus definitions update haven't worked, then you are looking at a clean reinstall as there is some sort of corruption that isn't being repaired or resolved by the Manual virus definitions update.

- Download the latest version of avast, 7.0.1466 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn't save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).
  • 1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
  • 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  • 3. install the latest version, reboot.

I actually did go ahead and do a fresh reinstall after uninstalling the other day and all seems to be working fine now.

Thanks so much to you and everyone who took time to reply to this and the other issues, especially the last few days.

I will say that so far today, no auto update has occurred, but I'll wait and see what happens tomorrow, to see if maybe yet another issue has arisen - here's hoping not.
Thanks again.

You're welcome.

According to your time of posting just over 15 minutes ago, avast VPS was on version 121007-1, so there have been two updates so far today.

If you haven't got 121007-1 :
Then I would check the avastUI, Settings, Updates, scroll down to the Update Parameters and set it to the connection method you use, 'My computer is permanently connected to the internet.'

Now scroll down the the Proxy Settings and expand that option, see attached image, click to expand. Ensure that you have it set to 'Direct connection (no proxy)' if you don't actually use a proxy to connect to the internet (usually not the case). The default proxy setting is usually 'Auto detect (use Internet Explorer settings' at times there can be a problem actually getting the proxy information from IE and that could impact on the auto update function.
