Avast free 7.0.1474, win7 ultimate.
yesterday, after finding that i couldn't send mail through outlook, i discovered that avast had died: unsecured, no registration info, fix it now does nothing. reinstalled and set up mail again, worked till today. died again, uninstall in safe mode, reboot, used avast uninstall utility in safe mode, reboot, then install avast. so far avast hasn't died again (4 reboots), but mail shield doesn't work. it said that it was on, but apparently not.
i have all accounts set up for ssl, just as they are in laptop, which also is running avast but none of the accounts (there are several) could send or receive. i turned off the mail shield, and reset all accounts in outlook to use ssl and proper ports. outlook mail now works. just for kicks i just tried turning mail shield back: no response. it won't turn on. tried repair. mail shield doesn't work.
any ideas as to what the issue is? i am using 7.0.1466 on laptop 7.0.1474 seems defective.
