ashserv memory problem at shutdown
« on: February 20, 2005, 04:02:28 PM »
I recently installed avast 4.5, and was experiencing some problems with outbound scanniing. However, after switching to another firewall, that problem disappeared. Every thing works great now, except for the fact that on shut-down, ashserv reports a memory problem.  Any ideas?

What if you update to version 4.6?

that on shut-down, ashserv reports a memory problem.

I have WinXP, and Avast! v. 4.6.  I had this problem with the previous version too - and it just went away on its own. As soon as v. 4.6 was auto-installed, the problem began again.

I posted this problem before, but didn't get an answer. When I saw this post, I actually felt better knowing someone else had it.  I don't have Jet Ghost's other problems - just that ashserv.exe reporting a memory problem at logoff.

Ironically, my computer runs all right w/no problems; Avast apparently works correctly, yet I get these error/popups at logoff. I don't even need to click 'end now' - the computer just shuts off.

Other than this minor problem, this new version is great.

Please try using the workaround suggested in my post here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=11347.0

thanks

I did as you suggested, Vlk.  Then I turned off computer 2x.  So far, so good.  Hopefully, your workaround will end my problem. It was also intermittent - many times, I'd never see this error screen at logoff - then they'd come frequently - then they'd stop again.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your fix continues to work, Vlk.

Thanks!  :)

Shut down computer last night - got the error/popup again.  Computer shut down all right - no need to click 'end now'.  Thanks anyway for trying Vlk. This is one of those mysteries which will never be solved. Since everything seems to be working all right with no ill effects, I'll just let this go.

Added the instruction in Avast.ini as indicated above. On my W2K no effect, still get the warnings...
