I voted it's rubbish... (referring to the GUI).  I have no idea why everyone is doing the "windows 8" look-a-like contest.  Big childish blocks that look like it belongs in a baby's play pen.

I love Avast and have been using it for over 5 years, the guts and glory have always been robust but this 2013 windows 8 look makes me want to barf!
This. Its disgusting.

+ Positive feedback.

It grows on you, but the Software Updater needs to improve in detecting more software.

Guys,as you see many people here are having no issues with avast v8 stop bashing it as trash..if you have had issues please make seperate topics in the forum to get help and there can be no perfect stable security software and I have avast v8 on all my client's machines working flawlessly.  :)
The topic is "How do you like Avast V8", and responses of crapware are completely correct with this topic.
This is NOT a "RA RA RA ... Avast v8 is Great ... post your positive feedback" topic title.

I've done a lot of software testing and don't have the time to elaborate into all the problems in another thread.
I do, however, have a second or two to correct a senior member on forum etiquette.

Since 160 Million people use the product, I'd hardly call it "crapware".
You're correct that since the question asked was "how do You like Avast V8" there will also be negative answers.
Since this is a support forum, most users come here because they have a problem so this could have more negative than positive answers.
Negative answer however without explanations as to what the actual problem is are meaningless.
Almost all problems can be solved and most are related to other security software conflicts.

I've been using avast for many years now and will continue to use it as long as I don't have any conflicts or issues. I really don't like the new look as stated on this thread. The interface is bland and looks to similar to another antivirus software. I also like to be able to open to full screen, I guess I really liked avast 7 interface.

I choose I like version 7 better not because of the looks or function.
The bigger concern is that it takes all the bandwith. I notice, when I installed the new version, that my internet connection was slower.
When I go on youtube, video are slowly getting in.

I tested my bandwidth with speedtest.net and network icontrol (program show you what programs are using bandwidth)
When I lunch speedtest, firefox utilize maximum 200.00 kbps and avast takes 800.00 kbps. When I disable avast : I get full 1000.00 kbps

But beside that, its a 8/10!! Avast is still the best antivirus out there compared to paid or free.
BTW I really like avast telling me flash, java and other problematic programs that are not to up to date.

<snip>

I really don't understand this at all, avast doesn't take up bandwidth without purpose.

When you browse the web all http traffic is redirected through the web shield proxy, so would be seen as avastSvc.exe, what you would normally see is a reduction in the bandwidth for those processes being redirected through the web shield proxy.

What you didn't say is the subsequent bandwidth used by firefox when you disabled avast.

I don't see any drop in bandwidth availability with the web shield enabled.

There are also some adverse reports on network icontrol actually taking up bandwidth (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/312236-30-beware-asus-network-icontrol-kill-upload-speeds), not knowing how network icontrol works, there is every possibility its traffic and bandwidth may also be shown against avastSvc.exe.

Whilst using any type of tool like this you have to be doing exactly the same thing in each test and have cleared the browser cache or you aren't going to get a valid comparison.

Basically fine, but that interface is horrible. Give the users a choice of skins or a choice between a normal (like V7) interface or this newer, win 8 tablet (horrible) look.

When a company has almost 185 M of active users they cannot make the good choice for everyone to be happy ... While you seems to not like it maybe the rest of the community (at leats a large majority) could like it a lot ...

hello,

Are users wanted to change interface (poll) or only craving from Avast ?

As far I'm concerned , even if no main use change , I don't like new interface too. :-\

Most of the 180 + users don't really care about UI only things they want is : No FP , good protection , silent AV .
