Why do people care so much about the interface? I have my avast configures so it would not bother me as much as possible. Shouldn't that be the purpose of such a program, to protect you but not interfere with your work, a silent guardian, a watchful protector(The Dark Knight anybody?). Spending too much time in the program's interface usually means something is not right. Why would you care how it looks since you shouldn't be looking at it in the first place?(At least not for long periods of time). As long as it's easy to find the settings, component or whatever you need it shouldn't be such a big deal.
Why not? Different people make different things. I'm not you and vice versa.

This is a security program, not deviantart. I wasn't talking about my settings as in everyone should use them, it was just to prove a point... about the damn interface.

I have the paid version of Avast and resented that without my permission or even a choice of options  the update installed Google Chrome and a bunch of other things I don't want. There is no apparent easy way to deselect this stuff. My techie husband will spend time tomorrow getting rid of Chrome and other things I don't want.

I may not renew Avast in the future. Too bad because until all this unwanted stuff came into the picture I was  very satisfied.
See if the following helps:

hi,
I'm not very agree that pay users have to spend time to look what happened , where to go to delete things out of avast we don't need and we didn't paid for.

On the other hand , I understand it for free users (they don't want to pay so they assume)

Sorry, but 'updating' into an unrecoverable error is NOT what I'd call progressive - let alone backward compatible.
What about the small but steady community of Win XP users??  Version 8 is a Total fail from their perspective.

Deeply compromised performance (PC generally sluggish, and internet speed drops by 2/3) compared to v7.  :o

I dont like the V8 GUI.

Even the V8 menu is confusing.

V7 has a beautiful GUI and users friendly.
Windows 11 Pro / Windows Defender/
Ryzen 5 1600/ Aorus Gtx 1080Ti Xtreme/ Gskill Trident Z RGB 3000/ Samsung Evo 250GB/ Western Digital Black 1 TB

I like v8 so far, but I would appreciate if the devs will add more contrast to the theme because this light themes tend to be an eyes killer :(

Hello, I actually don't like V8 because of the computer is slowdown since the update. In particular all the browsers.
But I like this release because there are big interressing topics.
I hope you will find the stuff asap.

More or less despise the new version.   Many "features" on the new version I don't use, don't want, don't need the overhead for, and most annoying, they WON'T STAY TURNED OFF.

I really REALLY get unspeakably p'd off when I have to reset the gorram program every time I reboot the computer, and when I have to respond to nagware just about every time I blink.

Will probably be finding another AV program, because you've taken a good usable app and turned it into genuine suckware...

(also:  Captcha on each freakin' forum post?  Really?)

Hi!

Everything, I mean every machine, is (again) under control now. Only a few problems were (not able to register [after a clean install] and also no add-in 'avast-account'). But both solved.
But if the 'avast AV'-SW grows in future like 'avast8' did, a lot of users will change to other 'AV'-SW because of the size.

Sorry but size isn't relevant only ram and system usage is important. HD space is cheaper than dirt. :)

Thanks, Bob, for your hint. I know that. But it's my opinion to keep, what's running fine. Otherwise I haven't even that money for 'upgrading' my laptop. In that case, it will cost more than a new one, isn't it?  :)
