Well, it would be better open a dedicated thread for your issue and get help there :)

I voted for "So far so good. It is an improvement over V7 but we will see." Because there have been some bugs, but those really disturbing me have been fixed so if i were to vote now i would choose "It's great. I love it." I personally thinks it's the best AV out there and i recommend it to everyone. Just a remark: i do hope avast won't have the fate as avira: a popular tool that somewhere rested on it's glory and failed to keep up.

I can't reccomend Avast anymore.
While the new version has been tollerable on my Win7 machine.
On the XP machine it has been the souce of endless frustration.

I'm loving it so far. Works flawlessly on my recently formatted desktop running Windows XP. :)

On XP, other than the very early closed beta testing (nightmare) I have had no problem with avast 8 on XP Pro SP3.

On my win7 netbook (win7 32bit) no problem to start with, but BSOD on 8.0.1488 (aswTDI.sys, not sure if that is related to outpost firewall pro), but a patch has cleared that up.

Avast 8 is undoubtedly one of the most bloated Avast version to date, the social integration and the program constantly nagging you to share or like the Avast page is absolutely annoying. Avast now seems like some random AV relying on social networking rather than on actual features to promote itself. And boy, the amount of bugs and those useless notifications makes the program a bit half baked. I wonder what was the Avast team focusing on, social crap sharing or usability.

Seriously,WTF...do you even know what is the actual meaning of bloat, social media in avast was since v5 or v6 and now it just a seperate part in the UI,I dont see any nags or anything in my avast free version and neither anyone else is complaining so all your statements are wrong in my opinion and talking about protection, you have any idea that there under hood improvements made in autosandbox and plus evo-gen,filerepmalware are some new technologies,Did you see the AV-Test results from feb avast did very very well all because new technologies and there is more improvements to come and scored 5.5 of 6 and then of course you can call avast half baked,do you even use Avast is my question LOL,because if you did then you wouldnt be saying that,as usual trolls like this one are still here  ::)

@ true indian,
Why are you replying to something that isn't even on this page ???
Dragging up old posts really doesn't make sense since it will only bring another negative reply.  :(

About the GUI (free version), it shows LOTS of totally irrelevant information. The only useful panel is the one showing scans and related options.
I know it sounds harsh but among the poll options I voted "rubbish". I don't blame the guy who designed Avast 8 but wrong priorities.

About Avast 8 itself, installed on a brand new system, tried, met some annoying bugs, like Mail Shield not dealing with SSL connections then GMail dead unless I switched the Mail Shield off, made some search and effort to fix it without success, got the usual feeling about all those "modules" doing who knows what and why and not being confident I finally uninstalled. I like the low hardware requirements of Avast but at any given upgrade there is always one thing or another that doesn't work. At least for me.

I'd like to know just whose dumb idea it was to (1) enable software updating by default and (2) set it to automatically update.  I caught mine updating uTorrent 2.2.1 to a later version with different characteristics.  Also, I rely on a specific version of Firefox which may or may not be the latest one.  I update it only after running extensive tests, not when some snippy little antivirus program thinks it's a good idea.

DO NOT EVER change programs on someone's computer without their knowledge or permission!!!  This goes double for safety-critical equipment.  It screws up the certification even if it doesn't kill people.

I'm dumping Avast and going back to AVG.

Default does NOT update automatically. It may advise you that there are updates available but you need to update the program. (Depending on the version of avast! installed.)

Once again a piece of software that adds google toolbar by default and I missed the check box.  Avast is now off my system. YOU HAVE IT ALL WRONG. The default should be  no google, and bold checkbox to add it.  And your verification box isn't all that great either.

You're missing the point of what you need your antivirus program for:
Protection, Protection, Protection
It's the one thing you get from avast! and, it's free
To change to something else and except less protection and probably something that uses more resources
as a trade off for having to unselect Google, doesn't make much sense.
But, it's your computer and your choice.

If you like an update that gives you absolutely NO CHANCE to decline Google Chrome, it seems fine.

The deal killer is the installation without prior notice of Chrome (blah, blah, blah, yeah, I know how to custom install, I was GIVEN NO CHOICE)!

The problem is that this isn't the case for the majority of people or these forums would be on fire with this. In all of the time that this has been the case, I have never ended up with chrome installed and I'm no fan of chrome. I have always been able to either uncheck the option or it has never been installed.
