« on: March 01, 2005, 04:00:35 PM »
Superbe new feature  :-* !
I'll like it. But I've detected a problem with it :P (or with me ;D)

Tested with FireFox 1.0.1  8) and M$IE 6.0  :-[

Site tested : http://www.ifrance.com (webmail)

WebShield OFF => Site browsed
WebShield ON => Site blocked with the next error page :'(

Quote from: Browser error page
The page cannot be displayed
There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.

Please try the following:

    * Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
    * Open the Web site home page, and then look for links to the information you want.
    * If you believe you should be able to view this directory or page, please contact the Web site administrator by using the e-mail address or phone number listed on the Web site home page.

HTTP 504 - Gateway timeout
avast! Web Proxy

When the server, while acting as a gateway or proxy, contacted the upstream content server, it did not receive a timely response.

GET http://www.ifrance.com/

I read elsewhere on here from Technical to try changing the Avast proxy setting from "Auto-detect" to "No proxy" (if not connected to the internet via a proxy).
Double click the avast icon on your desktop > menu > settings > update (basic) > details > proxy > choose direct connect (no proxy).
That fixed the problem for me.

...does anyone has an idea to detect the level of the problem ?

edit: I was forgotten, I use "Kerio Personnal Firewall" 4.1.2, but the problem occurs with or without KPF activated or desactivated.

What is your firewall?   If you are using something like Sygate or Kerio, you can log all of the internet traffic and see what is being blocked that is preventing site display by running with and without webshield.

I was okay until this morning.. now I can't get into hotmail.
If I disable zone alarm and avast web shield I still can't get into hotmail but now I get the standard "page cannot be displayed" instead of the avast web shield version.

So I don't know if it's me or hotmail.. or both  :(

I also turned off the proxy.

Most other web pages are okay... aargh!

Try clicking "ignore local communication" on the Web Shield setup page.  I had the same problem with Kerio and that fixed it.

This button was already clicked... and my webstite ifrance.com is also blocked even with KPF desactivated...

I don't know why, but it works now...
- Ignore local comm. is checked (but it was already checked before)
- proxy conf. is "automatic detection" (but i had tried "no proxy" - it didn't work)
- no one changement have been made in KPF...

 ??? mystery ?  ???

I think that with "automatic settings" Avast decide hitself if there is a proxy or not, and "no proxy" force Avast to ignore any proxy even if it detects one !

In my Avast version, the complete label text is "Automatic detection (use internet explorer settings)", so Avast might use them if there are some, and decide itself if not (?)
