Just to say that a friend suggested that I turn off SSL Scanning (which is new) and it seems to work really well...

Avast 8 hijacks the virtualisation for supposed better protection, but it has a ton of compatibility issues.

Hi Broken Hope, do you personaly have any problem with avast vitualization features, or do you just re-report other people's reports?

Windows being unable to properly query CPU features is a big enough problem for me, Task Manager should not be showing my CPU as not capable of Virtualisation when it clearly is. I don't want my security software hijacking things like that.

By hijacking you mean using?

Edit: some explanation: from the little I know from the team that created these features, using hypervisor in avast! greatly enhances Sandbox/autosandbox capabilities on systems, where hooking is not possible (x64) and thus adds to the security features. It might have some compatibility problems though and knowing about them is important. The driver itself is already trying to detect these and adjust its own functionality to prevent such problems. Fixing (faking) how things are reported to the OS is, I guess, also possible, but the overall stability and compatibility was the primary concern.

hmmmm i did the install which went smoothly but when rebooting it still gives me the black screen after i try to log in with my username and password in windows 8 Professional , then when i sign in all i get is the cursor , and if i try to do the task manager it starts then shuts off when i try to sign out i get a flashy blue screen and then thats it :(

nothing else is installed what could be wrong

system is asus hd55 mother board 12gb ram ddr3 1066 mhz intel i3 processor

before installing avast windows 8 ran smoothly , now i cant even get on :(

i have restored back 12 times so far , so its not a pc issue or windows , its surely a program error

cheers

Lee B

just to add to this , i want to state that windows xp pro Sp2 and avast 8 is perfect , hmmmmm so why is windows 8 so difficult to overcome with avast 8 ????

Since this update I have had numerous crashes.  They mostly seem to be when the computer tries to go into sleep mode.

windows version: Windows Vista Service Pack 2, 6.0, build: 6002
CPU: AuthenticAMD AMD Phenom(tm) 8450 Triple-Core Processor AMD586, level: 16
3 logical processors, active mask: 7
RAM: 3487969280 total
VM: 2147352576, free: 1985986560

On Wed 3/13/2013 12:42:55 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini031313-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x57150)
Bugcheck code: 0x50 (0xFFFFFA6007DBF000, 0x0, 0xFFFFF80002F0152E, 0x0)
Error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Have to add my two cents.
Updated from 1482 to 1483....  1482 updated cleanly, ran smoothly.
1483 updated cleanly, so far no problems.  Good work Avast.

Similar here but when starting from cold; After the Windows log-on sign screen goes black and small blue info pops up f
or about 2 seconds saying something about checking newly installed programms and update driver but its to quick to be able to read through it. After that it re-boots and starts fine.

Avast is the only new programme I've downloaded. Oddly enough all was fine before the latest fix 8.0.1483

Why should it scan encrypted HTTPS networks since they are considered secure always as they are encrypted  :)
