unable to connect to my.avast.com
« on: May 19, 2013, 11:52:40 PM »
Time to renew the license; i have to enter first name, last name, and email address.  I receive an email with a link I have to follow. I cannot connect to the server.

Further investigation reveals that I cannot connect to any of the URLs I tried, such as:
https://my.avast.com/faq
https://my.avast.com

but also:

http://my.avast.com
http://my.avast.com/faq

I tried from another computer on another location, I have no problem there.

Setup without problem:  vista, in europe.
Setup with problem: windows 7, in asia.

I can connect to other secure URLs, such as https://www.google.com
I can connect to https://www.avast.com  which then redirects to http://www.avast.com

On the computer without problems, I can connect to http://my.avast.com/faq which then redirects to the https version.

After a reboot, ordered by avast after updating the program, I can still not connect to https://my.avast.com/faq

The webpage just sits there, apparantly trying to load the page, without result.

How can I debug this problem?  I am aware that some viruses attempt to interfere with connections to websites of anti virus programs, so I am a bit worried. But maybe there is just a network problem that prevents asia to connect to the secure server of my.avast.com ?

As specified in my original post: I also can connect from another computer. That does not help me debug the problem on the Windows7 machine in Asia.
