Most users do not want avast! as an antispam  :'(

But all users do not want avast! become a "SystemWorks"  >:(

Well, I personally believe that for our server based AV products, anti-spam would be a great added value.

I was not sure about the consumer products, though. The truth is that most people already have some sort of antispam solution in place, and also that an extra module would increase the size of avast a bit... However, if it could be completely deactivated.... why not?

Also, while I absolutely agree with the "multiple layers of defense" paradigm I've got to add that antispam is not really like AntiVirus or AntiTrojan etc. - simply because the objects it filters are passive (meaning that the spam does not actively try to tamper with the protection by trying to kill some processes etc. - i.e. in a way that would in any way influence the working of the rest of the security package (e.g. antivirus)).

Vlk,

what kind of spam-protection are you guys thinking of? Static rules like the former spamassassin had? Bayes-Filters like the new Mozilla Mail? Or a hybrid solution as in the new spamassassin?

Bye,
  ts :)

BTW: I would prefer avast! being a great AV software rather than an all-in-one tool. If one can disable it totally (in the home-version too) it won't be a big problem for me though ;).

don't really need it (and couldn't use it for some of my mail accounts: IMAP with SSL is still not supported in the Mailscanner, is it ) ?

Mmmmh! Do you need an Italian translator for it?  ;)

However, I hope for it, but I hope for good antispam rules in it...And it is not easy to create that in many languages!  8)

You kind of figured it, we were thinking of integrating the new spamassassin. I know there is a number of products that do just this but we already have all the infrastructure in place so the actual integration wouldn't IMHO be such a problem...

I am a Nod32 user, too, but we can discuss the "best  av in the world" thing, if you want! Lets make it Wilders(security) like! ;)

Hi Mantra,

ACK --> I agree with the above SSL-Wish by shgoh

and I don't need more providers,  but would also have the possibility to unload/not load the unwanted providers
( I only need the basic filescanner/resident shield)

basically more of the undocumented avast.ini options, or even the provider "hacks" should be included in the GUI under some advanced button
 ;)

Yep exactly Vlk, so why bother and bulk out Avast.

I personally really hope you don't, but if you must please have it as an 'add-on' or 'plug-in' and not intergrated.

If you wanna do 'something', I might, ONLY MIGHT, think an added firewall be a slightly better option. But many of the same anti arguments would still apply.

How clarifying some of the previous 'wish list' items (ie have they/haven't they happened???) and start a new one. I notice that 'slow shut downs has been mentioned, but is still a niggle.

Just MHO.
