Hmm, what mail client are you using? Outlook (if so, which version)? Is it running at the moment of the freezing?
Or do you have avast on-demand scanner running?
Thanks

It's Outlook XP. It doesn't seem to make any difference if it's open or closed. The on-demand scanner is set to run though

I think I have the same problem here on XP Pro (SP1). Avast freezes while running the Outlook scanner overnight -- I suspect when processing updates. It seems to kill some "Event service", to the point that the machine won't even bring up the task manager or soft-reboot properly.

Same problems overhere, after the update Avast causes to freeze the comp. I am considering putting 3.0 back on the pc. Because this is really ennoying.
Running Win2000,sp3
Outlook Express 5.0 (not running when the comp. freezes after the update)

Guys, can you try manual updating? (i.e. not the automatic one, nor clicking in the blue box in right bottom corner). Does it freeze too?

I still have this problem even with the latest updates (I'll have to give you the numbers later today). I'm using WinXP SP1 and Outlook SP1. I've tried manual update without Internet Explorer (6.0) open. THe update is completed then after a short time of using IE the computer slowly locks up and I can't do anything apart from hard reset. Even Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work. Please can you give me a solution, or I will have to go back to aVast 3.0. Thanks

That's meant to say Outlook XP in my previous message. Anyway I've updated to the latest version and it seems to lock Outlook when trying to send a message. The Outlook mail scnner locks up and then I can't turn off the PC etc.
Build Jan200303 4.0.160
Xtreme Toolkit 1.9.22
Activeskin 4.2.7.3
VPS 0302-3 26/2/03
I'm going back to version 3 for now until someone takes an interest in this problem and fixes it.

This is not the latest version, in fact, this is the version that actually really
had
these problems.
The current version is 4.0.172. Either update to it (if it works), or download the whole setup.exe and do an install from it (running setup.exe on the target will do the update).

Ah that would explain it. Funny though as I though it had updated it to the latest version. I will download the full 172 version and try again. Thanks.
