I've found a way to crash avast! free using Block Application screen.
App version: 3.0.7702 free
Device: Acer Iconia A501
Android version: 4.0.3
1) In the main option screen, you must have the PIN protection disabled, but a PIN has to be specified.
2) Open Block Application screen, and select three applications to block. Insert PIN when requested (the PIN is asked although the PIN protection is disabled). With free version you can block only two applications, so when you try to block the third an alert pops up. Ignore it and dismiss it.
2) Completely close avast! console, removing it from the running application list.
3) Reopen Block Application screen again, inserting PIN when requested.
4) Try to block again a third application. PIN inserting screen appears, and when you have inserted it avast! crashes, leaving your device temporarily unprotected.
Notice that if you have PIN protection enabled everything works fine, so the quick (and safest!) workaround is to have it enabled.
