I have followed the instructions in the link  http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB91 several times and each time it fixes my problem for a day or so and then I get the "Add Security Exception" pop-up again - each time importing the Certificate fixes it until a few days later or sometimes even the next day I have to do it again!

Surely there must be something else that I can do to stop it happening? Everything was fine until 7th September 2014 - then every few days since then I have had to re-import the Certificate!

I am running Avast 2014.9.0.2021 and Thunderbird 24.2.0 on Win7 64 bit.

Maybe you should first update your Thunderbird. Current version is 31.1.1.
