Okay. Firstly I'd like to ask, what the heck is happening?
I updated today and everything was working fairly smoothly up until then, not including my SafeZone browser which I stopped using because it kept freezing all the time while using online bank service and deemed it was a threat to my security.
I even sent a message about it somewhere to Avast but surprisingly I haven't gotten any kind of reply for that.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, which is this update.
After this update my computer keeps shutting down all the active protection and when that happens it claims I don't even have the official version even though I have over 250 days left before it expires. It claims I'm running on the free trial version and that it's about to run out. The Avast Password keeps asking for the main password a million times, my browser freezes and crashes and while I can get all the protection back online, it ultimately shuts them down again in a few minutes.
When the protection is up, the update has the correct time and date on it, but when the protection goes down it tells me the update was made 1.1.1970 2:00:00

Please kindly help, because this is messed up. I'll do my best to tell you any additional details, but right now I'm just so baffled by what is happening that I don't even know what else to tell you.

Okay. Firstly I'd like to ask, what the heck is happening?

Are you sure your computer's clock is sane? OSes generally do not handle well time travels back to 70's.

I doubt it has to do with my computer's clock in any way. It's the Avast program that shows me this absurd date, NOT my pc. The time the update happened according to the PC has not changed once since the update, whether the Avast security measures are on or not. I do realize the hilariously illogical time on it, but as I said, when I turn all the protective measures back on, which I have to do again and again for no apparent reason, other than because that's just what my Avast IS does now, the time is right. It says the update came out today 14:11 if I remember correctly.

My Avast also keeps claiming that my 30 day trial has run out and offers me a 60 day trial, for which I don't have to pay, but it demands my card information for this "purchase" and I don't understand why it even does that, since it also clearly tells me that I have 279 days left in my licensed and paid for Avast Internet Security WHEN I turn all the security measures back on.

This whole problem came about after this update, but I don't know why it would cause this. It's still highly confusing and irritating as I don't know what to trust. Why should I have to give my credit card info again just to confirm some "free" purchase when I already have a license that should work? Seems really fishy to me, which exactly would lead me to think that my Avast would be infected in some way.

I guess none of you use SSL with Thunderbird.

And now don't get your mail - same ol' AVAST.

Something I have just noticed - the program update changed my bloody update settings again - they have been set to Automatic Program Updates. I keep having to set it back to 'Ask when an update is available.'

This is getting to the point of the straw that breaks the camels back. I say that because this is something like the third or forth time I have reported this. I don't live in the avastUI, normally only using it to do screen captures for forum topics and this is where I noticed it again,

The last time I reported it I was assured that if you change the program updates off Automatic future program updates would honour that, well it bloody hasn't. It may only take seconds to reset, but that isn't the point, first you have to notice it and hope in the meantime a program update doesn't come along Automatically.

Don't know what is going on with mine - I have set it back now - and done a Repair for good measure. Was considering a clean install but stopped short.

Well Dave, let's hope it helps, as I haven't seen any related problems in the forum.

Hello Avast, today Avast Browser was installed on my machine without any permission.
Not only that, a new version was installed even tho' i had the older one set to not update in any way. The old one worked just fine, really.
All was fine till this happened today. Ive been using it for a year now.
You could have sent me some nice porn instead rather than this amazing and trully wonderful avast browser.
I ask you:
Are your options actually functionational?
Are your options a shiny metaforic curtain?
If i disable all automatic updating options will that work, if not why do you have them?
I already have two browsers, someone thought that adding a third Avast Browser is okey, who is he/she and why?
Do you see my files?
Do you in any way change my scheduled tasks?
Did you change my registry whitout my approval?
Did you stole my bank information?

avast is amazing, i love you and i wont in any way initialize the uninstall, no no way. not me. for real.

Have a nice day.:)
Yours trully

So, I turned on my ancient XP netbook after several weeks and Avast Free antivirus decided to update. I chose to not install Chrome when I originally when  Iinstalled Avast, I don't need it and Chrome does not even support XP anymore. This update installed Chrome without asking (or had a very well hidden deault checked checkbox to install Chrome I missed). PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT!

And? I have the netbook at work for personal suff and for runnin ancient tools (for embedded software). I turned the piece of XP junk on, did other things with my work machine, noticed and clicked some requester related to Avast update, did more work, noticed and clicked some another requester related to Avast, did some more work and found out the browser in XP netbook had changed to Chrome. And then wasted some work time to get rid of it.

I only have Avast on that netbook and an Android tablet I'm writing this now. I have MSE on my other Windows systems, it's a inferior resource wasting turd, but at least it does not unexpectedly install unrelated crap.

I have discovered several days, that avast program takes all CPU resources in about 20 minutes from power start up. It happened about once a week and now yesterday and today. I can see that using the MS performance tool.

All my user program slows significantly down due to this issue. Can something be done about it?
