These machine will receive NO SUPPORT from apple or Psystar which will soon be out of business. In addition as always the Mac OS X installation on these machines will most likely be bricked in the next update. As it should be. If you want OS X get a Mac, Dont like Apple's Hardware? Too bad thats the way it is.

And if Apple has 8.5% and linux is in there somewhere too then Microsoft actually has less than 90% now if the US Market.

Mac,
You and I both know that statistics can be manipulated to favor any ones point of view.
We see it in politics all the time.
I personally know of 2 people who own an Apple. I know and have worked with 100's of people
who have Microsoft's operating systems on their computer.
Those are real life statistics not slanted. Until Apples becomes less stringent with their hardware requirements
and starts lowering their prices, They will never make up a great part of the computer business.
This doesn't mean that it's not a great computer nor does it mean that there is anything wrong with their operating system.
They are just out of monetary reach of most computer users.

My problem with Apple is their pricing, I actually know someone who owns a macbook pro who was wanting to upgrade the memory to 4GB but didn't think they could afford to. The price at the apple store for 4GB of DDR2 PC2-5300 SO-DIMMs
 (2GBx2) is $400.00. You can get the same memory at Crucial.com for $103.99.

So my question is, Why does Apple do this to their customers??

Same with why can't they have a user changeable battery in the iphone or ipod rather than having to have it sent back for replacement, a healthy income for the apple.

Apple has always overcharged for memory upgrades, its common knowledge in the Mac community that you buy your memory from a 3d party reseller like crucial.

Lots of MP3 players don't have user replaceable batteries. And usually before the battery wears out usually you have already purchased a bigger/better model of some kind. Also by not having a user replaceable battery, Apple is able to make the product thinner (take the MacBook Air as an Example) and Thin definitely sells. The battery replacement program generates very little revenue for apple, from what ive seen, most people that do replace their batteries use do-it-yourself kits like these http://www.ipodbattery.com/

Apple says Psystar knowingly violated its copyrights and license agreements and induced customers who bought the OS X-running Open Computer to do the same. Because of that and the resulting damage that Apple alleges is being done to its brand, it’s asking the US. District Court for a permanent injunction that would bar Psystar from selling any more hardware with Apple software. And it wants Psystar to recall every Mac clone sold.

I can understand them wanting to punish Psystar, but I simply can't understand their logic in hitting the end user, it is hardly likely to make them buy a legit Mac.

I think that is very small minded, I would have though it would have been better to try and bring them on board rather than kick them in the teeth when many of them are unlikely to understand that they were doing anything wrong.

Well Im guessing their logic is that once Psystar goes out of business those machines will not work properly. You see Psystar has been having to modify the Mac OS X updates to make them properly install on the machines, thats part of Apple case against them. Once psystar is not there to modify those updates all those machines will no longer receive OS updates and Security updates and the official Apple Updates have the potential to make the system unbootable. Remember psystar has modified many of the OS X files to get it to run on this Non Apple Hardware ones those files are replaced unmodified copies in a OS update the system will not function properly.

Plus there should be no installations of Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware anyway so they have every right to want those machines recalled. I do think the end users should get a full refund, at Psystar's expense  of course.

We kind of agree here. To me, software piracy is stealing, It's just the same as walking into a store and filling your pockets. As for going after the end users, I think Apple is partly to blame because they waited so long to put a stop to this. They should have went after Psystar as soon as the first system went on sale.

I would say they have the right to have the software uninstalled, but not to the system which is the property of the purchaser.

The key words are "non-Apple hardware" the hardware doesn't belong to apple, so they can want as much as they like the hardware isn't theirs.
